Name: Haruishi, Mari (春石 万里) Age: 15 Gender: Female Appearance:
Height: 6'00". Weight: 181lbs. Mari has purple lightning bolt-shaped streaks in her otherwise straight, black hair. Her calves and feet are unusually large. Mari also wears noticeable hearing aids.
Quirk:
(Born to Run - Thunder Road aspect) - Born to Run is a pretty lackluster 'superspeed' quirk, allowing Mari to run significantly faster than the average human (Top speed 30mph, according to Wikipedia, Usain Bolt set the record at 29mph). This also makes her legs and feet slightly tougher than average. In a moment of desperation, Mari unlocked the 'Thunder Road' aspect of this quirk, allowing her to double her normal top speed and generate electrical arcs in her wake when traveling between 30 and 60 mph. The faster she is going, the stronger the lightning. She cannot generate the lightning at lower speeds, and it is difficult to use offensively, either requiring someone to chase closely behind her and tank all the electricity, or for her to run past someone very closely in hopes that the random arcs connect. It is also dangerous to use in rescue operations as she has a chance of electrocuting civilians when she is running. More than anything, she requires special hero equipment which she does not yet have to regulate, direct, and/or store the electricity she generates. At its lowest speed, Thunder Road is noisy, and at high speeds, Thunder Road is LOUD, so stealth is not an option.
Questions:

Given its reputation, why apply to Kokoro Academy?
"Not many schools will accept a deaf hero hopeful. I also don't have parental consent. Kokoro Academy is giving me a chance no other school will."

Why do you want to be a professional hero?
"Heroes are so fixated on 'villains'. I want to be there for the ones whose oppressors are overlooked. Victims of...domestic violence. I want to believe that my life has meaning, has a purpose. That my suffering was worth something."

What kind of professional hero do you want to become?
"I want to be a hero who promotes social awareness. Who empowers people to save themselves from their own situations."

Best describe yourself in five sentences.
"People have described me as severe and judgmental. Some say that I tend to be condescending, but that's only because a lot of people are just wasting my time. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I place high value on individual effort and independence. I don't believe that systems, environments, institutions, or fate can truly stop a motivated individual and I won't accept that excuse from anyone. I am driven when it comes to my goals and will do whatever it takes to achieve them, but I play by the books and will not resort to cheap tactics."

What are you interests and hobbies?
"I live alone, so I'm pretty busy between school and my part-time job. I know sign language and I'm fairly decent at reading lips. I'm also highly organized and take great notes, and because of work, I also have basic money-keeping and managerial skills... I guess those aren't really hobbies. I am good at track and field activities, though. I can also play 'Red River Valley' on the harmonica. I can't hear it, but I know it by heart. I wear one as a necklace. It's a gift from my father, a memento of a time...before he started taking his frustrations out on me. Let's talk about something else."

Are there any notable accomplishments you want us to be aware of?
"None worth mentioning, I'm trash...sorry..."

Tell us something about your quirk that most might not know? Any events or memories, be it joyous or ill, tied to it?
"I was raised by a typical deadbeat father; my mother had left before I could remember. I actually have the same quirk as my father, and his words to me were always, 'You can't outrun me'. An abusive drunk, he made my life a stoic hell. At school I struggled to hide the details of my home environment out of shame, while simultaneously trying my hardest to secure good grades. At home I did chores and tried to placate my father's sporadic wrath. All attempts to escape failed. Except for the last time. I discovered a previously unknown aspect of my quirk, something my deadbeat father never figured out for himself. I called it, 'Thunder Road'. In my final attempt to escape him, in a shining moment of pure freedom, I overused Thunder Road, an effort which has rendered me deaf."

Why should we consider you over the other applicants? What can you offer that they cannot?
"I am determined! I will work harder than anyone! My quirk might be weird, but with the right equipment, I think I can really put it to good use."

Theme:
