Wyatt had a date and was capable of getting himself there, so check that box off. Their only other friends were Raf and Mason, and those two would find their way here if they so wished. But Double A needed to arrive early. See, the Friday night parties at Captain Cuddles got a little busy, and A Double had a fear: there wouldn’t be enough pizza to sustain him. It was a legitimate fear! Some of the people that went to school with them could eat a lot of pizza, and it was an all you can eat buffet. That meant that a lot of pizza was going to be eaten, and A Double wanted to ensure he ate enough. So, he came up with a brilliant idea: arrive early, and pre-eat. So, it was like an hour and change-ish before the beginning of the movie, and A and his Q were walking up the stairs to the Captain Cuddles pizzeria establishment. A Double was dressed in a shirt that had Chewbacca’s face on it, and was wearing loose fitting flannel pajama pants that had lightsabers on them. The pants were a pair he had specifically for nights like this, where he intended to eat a lot of pizza. The extra room could come in handy! As they neared the door, A Double glanced over at Q and grinned his classic, dumb, toothy grin. “Hey, thanks for letting us come early. I get that it’s kinda weird? But I just… really like pizza, Q.” Quincy laughed. “You should know me well enough by now to realize that if I didn’t want to be here an hour early, we wouldn’t be,” she said, before planting a kiss on his cheek, and leaning her head against his shoulder. Their relationship had gotten more comfortable since their conversation on Monday, and she was excited to debut them. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t care about showing off her boyfriend just a little bit. “Yeah, that’s fair.” A Double said as he nodded his agreement, leading her along the way to the counter, where he gently rang the bell. It took a few seconds, but before long, the owner came out from behind the counter, and squinted at them. “You’re always early, A Dubs.” Ty said, shaking his head as he ran a hand through his hair. “I’ll get you the usual. Give me like ten minutes. Hey, do you guys know a girl named Kit?” “...do we know a girl named Kit?” He said, looking at Q. The best part of having a girlfriend, he’d realized, was that he didn’t really have to remember anything. Instead, Q handled all the pesky business like ‘do you know this person?’ “Nah, can’t say we do,” Q replied, leaning up against A Double. She raised her eyebrows though, quizzically. “Why? Don’t tell me someone’s after us?” Quincy asked. Her meeting with Ash had shaken her a little bit. It would be just his thing to send someone asking around about them. “Nah, but she seemed like she was your type. She had purple and blue hair, looked like she spent most of her time high, drank four root beer floats, ate a bunch of pizza, beat all your high scores, and then left. Also, she thought I only had three games in my entire shop.” “What? That’s… that’s a lot of ice cream and pizza.” A Double squinted, sitting down at the bar and gesturing for Q to get up beside him as he stared across the way at Ty. “Kit’s kind of a dumb name. That’s not even a real name!” Q slid up on to a bar stool next to A Double, mouth agape. “She beat our high scores?” she asked in disbelief. Those high scores had been good, and they’d taken a whole summer to cultivate on most of the machines. Wyatt and Raf were gonna be pissed. “Well, two of them: Tron and Ms. Pac-Man. Then she played Third Strike and complained about me not having enough games to call this an arcade? But she never opened the door to the actual arcade…” Ty sighed and shook his head, “that’s how I know she smokes too much weed. I’ll be right back with your food. I heard you two are dating! That’s great.” With that, Ty headed back into the kitchen. “This girl sounds crazy.” A Double muttered, looking over at Q and kissing her cheek. “We should talk to her? Do you think that’s her real name?” “Kit is definitely a real name babe. Well, I guess it’s a nickname. Didn’t you read American Girl?” Quincy asked, smirking at her boyfriend. “Anyways, if she likes the place so much, maybe she’ll show tonight,” Quincy suggested, shrugging. “Have you seen Owen recently? I wanted to see how he’s holding up,” Q asked. She had never liked Owen that much, and after the drama with him and Trixie, well she’d liked him less honestly. Finding out that he’d stood up for her to Hailey though? That had changed her mind on the guy. She’d been meaning to talk to him, but as far as she knew, he wasn’t at school today. “What's American Girl? Owen? Owen Lyon? Owen Lyon my scary cousin who's all bite and no bark? Owen ‘probably gonna get a murder charge because Jamie can't keep my name out his mouth’ Lyon? That Owen? Uh… He's probably okay. I haven't seen him. We can go see him! It's not like, a big deal. If that's what you want. I thought you didn't like him because he's a cheater? Or… Something?” As A Double spoke, his hand busied themselves with folding the napkin in front of him into a swan. “I didn’t. As it turns out, he’s not a cheater, and the only reason everybody thinks he is one, is because he stood up for me. So, I owe him one.” Quincy shrugged. “He has to come to school eventually. I’ll talk to him then.” Quincy said, staring off at the arcade. “If this Kit girl beats my Time Crisis high score, I’m gonna be annoyed. That shit took way too long for some rando to come knock it down,” Q griped. “I mean… if she already beat Raf’s Pac-Man score, and my TRON score, then she’s pretty good… You’d have to like stand next to the machine and watch it all night. Cuz what if she comes here to this thingy and plays arcade games? If she goes into the actual arcade, she’ll beat everything. Like… like some kind of monster.” A Double said, looking over at Q thoughtfully. He did have a point. The Pac-Man and Tron scores had stood for almost a year and a half now. “Are you suggesting that I won’t? Cause I will,” Q said, slamming her hands down on the bar in some sort of show of dominance, although who she was dominating remained unclear. “Ty, I’m gonna need a float! I’ve got a fucking siege to lead,” The Burner Queen growled, looking over at the arcade and her coveted Time Crisis machine, like a corrupt hobbit guarding an ancient treasure. “Does that mean we’re not watching Star Wars…?” A Double asked, as Ty came out from the kitchen with a plate of cheesy breadsticks that he dropped in front of A Double, before turning around and grabbing a mug, before he filled it up with soft server and root beer from the taps behind the bar. “Knock yourself out, Quincy. Free refills tonight, y’know.” After Ty said that, A Double began to open his mouth, but before he could even start, Ty was already pouring another one. “Yeah, I know.” He said, before sliding both mogs down the way to the King and Queen. A Double was pleased, eating a piece of delicious cheesy bread, and taking a sip from his mug. “Babe, I’ve seen Obi-Wan die enough times to know that this here is the good fight. I’m protecting our legacy. I am the Jedi,” Quincy said, before taking a bite of root beer soaked, vanilla ice cream. “As good as ever, Ty!” “But… okay.” A Double seemed resigned to his fate. The problem wasn’t not watching Star Wars, the problem was not kissing Quincy. But, he could survive a few hours of not doing something he’d been doing a whole lot for the past couple of weeks. “As long as I still get to eat a lot of pizza.” A Double stood up with his float in one hand and his cheesy bread in the other. “Let’s go, I think there are stools in the arcade.” He knew there were stools in the arcade, but A Double always said ‘think,’ just in case for some reason they’d been moved. Quincy grabbed her root beer float and followed A Double into the arcade, ready and willing to defend her title. She was less concerned about the lack of making out than she was about her highscore. She could make out with A Double, pretty much whenever she wanted. Plus, her lips were sore. This, though, this was important. This was her prestige, her legacy as a burner. She’d been reborn in Burntown but she’d been baptized in Captain Cuddles. She wasn’t going to give this one up without a fight.
