Plain and simple. As a child, while most little girls her age were more concerned with braiding the hair of their Barbie dolls or playing in their mothers' makeup kits, Mariah decided that she'd much rather spend her time roughhousing or running around outside with the neighborhood boys. I guess one could say that Mariah was your textbook tomboy; unlike those girls, she didn't really mind getting down and dirty, hated wearing skirts and dresses, and didn't find the members of One Direction anywhere near as attractive as she probably should have. This even continued throughout middle and high school; while Mariah's female "friends" were busy hanging around malls and scoping out cute boys, Mariah was at practice. Basketball, track & field, softball, field hockey... any sport you can think of, Mariah has probably played it at one point in her life or plans on doing so down the line. Ice Hockey. That was the sport that captured Mariah Donald's attention from a very young age. Looking back, Mariah thinks that it was probably inevitable thanks to her father and his history in the NHL. Aaron Donald encouraged all of his children to give the sport a try, but it was Mariah who ended up playing throughout her entire upbringing. Through this brutal sport, Mariah could channel all of her aggression and violent tendencies, and turn it into something positive. It was this sport that greatly boosted her self-esteem; by the time her high school team won their second championship game, Mariah couldn't care less about how different she was from her other girlfriends. She was finally at that point where she was (almost) completely confident in who she was. She became this sort of free spirit. Now, don't get me wrong, Mariah's entire life certainly did not revolve around sports. In fact, the young woman has a multitude of of interests and hobbies, another main one being drawing. During those dreary, rainy days where she couldn't go play outside, Mariah was more than likely to be found sitting in her bedroom, sketching little caricatures and comics featuring the people around her neighborhood. Mariah is a creative who has a very active imagination, something that comes in handy when she's creating these works of art. When it came to school, however, Mariah was nothing more than an average student, graduating high school with a 3.5 grade point average and being accepted into most of the colleges that she'd applied to. She'd even been offered a few hockey scholarships, but ended up turning them all down; she decided to spend a couple of years attending a community college before leaving her family for university. When ten year old Mariah decided that she wanted to follow in both her father and brother's footsteps and play hockey, the entire family was incredibly supportive; her father taught her most of what she knows, her brother helped her practice on the ice, and someone was always there to cheer her on from the stands. When sixteen year old Mariah expressed to her parents that she wanted to ask a girl to the homecoming dance, to say that they were shocked would be an understatement. Nonetheless, the family supported the eldest Donald daughter, even helping her pick out a pretty corsage to give to this mystery girl. Yeah, Mariah has a pretty solid, loving relationship with each of her family members, and wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. The family was even supportive when Mariah announced that she wanted to spend two years in community college before leaving for a four-year university. What they didn't know, however, was her real reasoning behind doing so. "I just think it will be the smartest option," Mariah had told them, "in terms of saving money and whatnot." This, of course, was partially true. I mean, the couple already had a son in college; why not help them keep a little bit of money in their pockets? What they didn't know, however, was that Mariah had no idea who she wanted to be or what she wants to do in the future. Thanks to her latent tendency to constantly doubt herself and her abilities, Mariah isn't so sure that she'll succeed if she decides to pursue a career in the art field. She also doesn't believe that she's even good enough to play professional hockey like her father once did. Hidden underneath a thin layer of confidence lays a whole lot of fear of what the future will bring. I'm thankful for everything that she does for me and my siblings."
π™°πšŠπš›πš˜πš— π™³πš˜πš—πšŠπš•πš β€’ π™΅πšŠπšπš‘πšŽπš›
"To say that my dad and I have a lot in common would be the understatement of the century. I just wish he would stop smoking... it's disgusting."
π™ΉπšŽπšœπšœπš•πš’πš— π™³πš˜πš—πšŠπš•πš β€’ πš‚πš’πš‹πš•πš’πš—πš
"Jessie is... well, he's Jessie. Watching her grow up and develop has been pretty neat; although she's a big scaredy cat and an occasional pain in my ass thanks to her teasing, I still love her to pieces. I hope one day I can convince her to finally pick up a hockey stick and get out on the ice."
