Hello! I'm very interested in this idea, and thought I'd toss my hat into the ring for consideration! Please let me know what you think, and if I need to change anything about my character concept!
Name: Jessica 'Jessie' Beadle Alias: Lightning Bug Age: 19 Gender: Female Precautions: Dampening bracelets Personality: Under normal circumstances, Jessica (Or Jessie, as she insists on being called when out of costume) is bubbly and outgoing and incredibly bright and ingenuitive. She is eager for excitement and adventure, and is always looking for a way to put herself into the best possible position for fame and glory. Jessie has been shown to be incredibly inventive, likely due to her Technopathic powers providing her a boost when she is in a creative mood. However, due to the power dampening bracelets she is forced to wear while in the Tower, her personality and mental capacities are somewhat diminished. While wearing the bracelets, Jessie is subdued and somewhat slow, taking longer than usual to respond to external stimuli and lacking in energy. Some of Jessie's core beliefs are unchanged however, and are in fact part of the reason for her wearing the dampening bracelets in the first place. She is quite selfish of the spotlight, wanting her name and face to be a instantly recognizable by practically everyone, and wouldn't mind being able to make money off her glory as well. She also holds a secret, but deep-seated belief that Superhumans are naturally better than the average Joe, and deserve so much more than the barely-disguised slavery they have been forced into. Powers/Abilities: Jessie's abilities are three-fold: Limited teleportation, Electrokinesis, and Technopathy. --Limited Teleportation: Using her connection to a little-known pocket dimension known as the Lightning Matrix, Jessie is able to temporarily slip between our dimension and that one. She travels in an instantaneous flash of lightning to within her line of sight. She only has the ability to teleport about a half-dozen times before her powers are exhausted. --Electrokinesis: Using the same connection to the Lightning Matrix, Jessie is able to generate bolts of electricity from her body. She has great control over these bolts, able to use them as powerful lightning strikes or small static shocks. --Technopathy: A seemingly-unrelated power (Though some outlandish studies have suggested that the Lightning Matrix is sentient and has granted Jessie this ability), Technopathy allows Jessie to speak naturally with all manner of machines, so long as they use electricity. She is able to trace signals, fabricate data, manipulate currents, and generally perform most feats on machines that a powerful telepath could perform on a human mind. Appearance:

Lightning Bug wears a brown hooded cloak, rounded at the bottom, over a long sleeved tan shirt. She wears neon green pants, designed to mimic the flash of a firefly, and heavy black boots laced up to her calves. Lightning Bug wears black leather gloves to cover her fingerprints, and a pair of green-tinted goggles to hide her appearance, in addition to the hood. Other: The green goggles Lightning Bug wears are an old project of hers that have a built in telescoping system, allowing for her to more clearly see distant points she might be able to teleport to. These further jumps wear her out more quickly, but have provided a way out of a few tight situations. These goggles also have built in night vision and infrared sights. Lightning Bug has also been attempting to work on a hoverboard in her spare time, but the dampening of her powers has been interfering with her inventing process as well, and she has barely gotten past the design stage, most of which she has come up with while on missions and away from the influence of the bracelets. History: Jessica Beadle was the daughter of accomplished geneticist Gerard Beadle and his wife, Susanne. Her early years were filled with joy and comfort as her father's position afforded them a fair amount of wealth. When she was around eight years old however, her father presented some research stating the he believed humanity was not the peak of evolution on Earth, and that Superhumans were in fact the next stage of greater evolution, not a coincidence of powerful mutations as was the widely accepted explanation. This was seen as a ludicrous theory by his peers, and Gerard was eventually forced out of the field he loved so much. The family was forced to move out of their luxurious home after their savings dried up, selling off their assets and investments. Jessie watched her family go from happy and wealthy to poor and frustrated. Several years after her father lost his position, Jessie began to discover her unusual abilities. They began as simple, explainable things; static buildup leading to small shocks, being good with computers, things like that. It wasn't until she was standing in the small kitchen one day, staring out the window and daydreaming as she washed dishes that she began to realize something was very different about herself. She went from washing dishes to suddenly standing in the empty lot across the street, dishrag and plate in hand. She ran back to her house where she was met by her concerned parents, who had seen her sudden vanishing act. After that she began to experiment more and more, discovering her electrical abilities and testing the range on her teleportation. Gerard was thrilled at this discovery, believing that his daughter could prove his theories correct, and all that was needed was to make her known among the various names of the other Superhumans. Jessie's parents encouraged her join the Academy and to push the limits of her powers, to see what she could do, and to test how much better she was than a normal person. At the New Horizon Academy however, Jessie made a bit too much of a name for herself. During her senior year she caught the attention of the school administrators when she was heard talking about her fathers theories, and espousing his ideals that Superhumans are naturally suited to be leaders of the human race. Though she had previously been on a short list of well-regarded students, she was suddenly placed on watch, and presented with many more restrictions. Angry at her new situation, Jessie lashed out at the authority figures at the school, injuring several in a fight. it was then that she was first fitted with the power dampening bracelets, which she would continue to wear even after graduation and entering the Tower. Jessie now harbors a deep-seated resentment towards the New Horizon staff, and wants nothing more than to have unrestricted use of her powers back and to never be caged again...
