Yet while some might think he's charismatic because of this, he's much more of a dry humor sort of person. He doesn't make a fuss if he can help it and tends to work in the background. 

Now, he's also incredibly brave and protective. He'll go out of his way to protect what he believes his worth saving - whether that's his own interests or those of another person. This ambition and resiliency can come off as selfishness on occasion, which isn't entirely wrong. Raynor is looking out for number one - but if he deems you to be a friend, make no mistake, he'll help you as well with all of his power - as long as it doesn't put his own life in danger.

[hider=Cover Story]Raynor was struggling to find meaning in his work as a cage fighter. While he was good at it, his heart just wasn't in it and he had become estranged from his family at that point. S.H.I.E.L.D. had the resources to help him find his missing friend, as well as offering an exciting career and the chance to have a family once again. He never imagined himself becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but he doesn't regret the choice, even after nine years in the field.[/hider] Fury wasn't dumb and managed to realize there was a rogue Asgardian on Earth, working as a cage fighter. Not wanting Fury to call Thor or anything like that, since he was certain Odin would send him back to Earth-257, Raynor struck a deal with Fury. Fury wouldn't blow his cover, provided he came and worked for him at S.H.I.E.L.D. And as luck happened, Lana eventually joined S.H.I.E.L.D. years later as well. Raynor often wonders if Fury had had a hand in that or not.

[hider=Cover Story] Raynor comes from a family of people with abilities. His father is a light manipulator, as is his brother - and his mother has empathic powers. Beyond his immediate family, he has an uncle with lightning manipulation, another uncle trained in magic (although he's adopted), and a cousin with control over water. If he had been born without powers, it would have been an incredibly unusual event - and in his father's words, an insult to a family line that has stretched back for eons. 

His childhood was fairly happy. Living on the Lofoten Islands in Norway, Raynor grew up speaking numerous different Scandinavian dialects - travelers would come through and some people would go to his grandfather for religious purposes, as he was a spiritual leader when it came to the old Norse ways. His grandfather ensured that he learned how to read and speak Old Norse before he even began to think about learning English. 

As a teenager, he discovered that one of his closest friends, Lana, had gone missing. He took it upon himself to track her down, leaving his home and heading to the United States. To earn money, he ended up entering himself in bar fights, having a surprising knack and talent for it. He earned enough money to have threats made against his life, with many mistaking him for a mutant - though he tried to avoid using his powers too much when fighting. He felt dirty when he used his powers for entertainment - he'd rather use his muscles. 

He never did find Lana, but S.H.I.E.L.D. did manage to find Raynor. He had changed his last name to Blake and they offered him a spot in their Operations academy. It was his reputation as a fighter in seedy circles that caught their attention, but his powers and large range of languages that sealed the deal. He went off to Operations, graduating at the top of his class, and continued to work with S.H.I.E.L.D. in the field ever since. He's still keeping an eye out for his friend, using S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources to do so.[/hider]Raynor Blake is the false identity of the Asgardian Raynor, Baldur’s son, God of Lies and Light from Earth-257. His doppelganger on Earth-666 is the Asgardian Runa, Baldur’s daughter, Goddess of Lies. Unlike his counterpart, Raynor had a relatively happy childhood. His biggest trouble on Asgard was the annoying presence of his brother, Forseti, the God of Justice and Retribution. Of course, everything changed when Loki set the events of Ragnarok into motion, destroying Asgard and orphaning Raynor. His cousin Klara, the Goddess of Love, more or less adopted him, as he didn’t have any other family left. The surviving Asgardians fled to Midgard, claiming a piece of land for their own and dubbing it New Asgard (Norway).

He stayed there for a while, but he was bored with the idle life there. He started to travel Midgard, eventually finding himself in the island nation of Genosha – a place where only mutants were allowed. Calling himself Raynor Blake, he ended up being asked to run the Dark X-Men – an organization dedicated to freeing mutants from oppression across the globe. He accepted and the group devolved quickly into a terrorist organization, venturing into the Iron and blowing up hospitals, schools, and religious centers in the name of freedom. His codename was Ragnarok, after the violent event that took his family. 

Eventually, his cousin reached out to him and told him that his soulmate had been taken to a different reality. Raynor knew that she was telling the truth, due to his abilities, and he abandoned the Dark X-Men without a word. With Klara’s help, he traveled through a breach in reality, looking for his soulmate – Lana Banner. He found her, but she was just an infant – it would have been creepy to stay by her side. He made sure that she was adopted by a nice family, before going off and establishing a new identity for himself as a Norwegian cage fighter. His skills caught the eye of S.H.I.E.L.D., especially as Director Fury realized he was an Asgardian from another dimension.
 
Raynor accepted the position, eventually being assigned to the Phase Three team and then the Secret Warriors, just like Lana – only she was called Theresa Sparks here. When their first mission went horribly wrong, he went after her and was trapped with her in the Quantum Realm. Keeping her safe is just one small part of righting his wrongs. When Dominika Novikova and Dr. Hank Pym created Ultron, Raynor and the others were liberated from the Quantum Realm - only for his true love to be murdered during the Age of Ultron.
