However, one look at her shows a lean, athletic figure, with well-defined muscle and good posture. She walks with an air of confidence, always keeping her head high. She has a fair complexion, with a small scar on her right cheek. Her hair is dyed a bright red; it falls to her mid-back, though she usually keeps it tied back into a ponytail. Her eyes are a deep brown, usually with a touch of eyeliner and mascara accentuating them. Mei's eyes usually seem alert and observant, as if she's silently taking note of her surroundings. Her mouth seems to default into a slight frown, though she does not do this intentionally. Most would describe her as rather pretty, if not somewhat harsh-looking. Mei's skin is dotted with scars, the most notable being on her back and left shoulder. She's rather pale, and seems to do her best to care for her skin. She only wears perfume in professional settings, though she tends to smell faintly of vanilla due to her deodorant. She also doesn't wear much jewelry, aside from a favored pair of ruby earrings given to her by her mother. Mei's nails are usually neatly painted and kept short. As for her preferred clothing, Mei tends to adopt a "tasteful but practical" style. She often wears camisoles and blouses, typically in either red or black. She also opts for jeans most days, but will occasionally wear a skirt. Refusing to wear heels, Mei greatly prefers ankle-cut boots that allow her some comfort. As a college student, she can't exactly afford the most expensive clothing, but she aims to be as presentable as she can be. However, she will always choose function over fashion, prioritizing her own comfort. Personality: Mei has always seemed a bit uptight. Ever since elementary school, she has held herself to a high standard. Competitive and ambitious, she has always sought to compete with-and outdo-her peers. Of course, parental pressure played a key role in this, but she has adopted it as a sort of personal endeavor. Getting along with others isn't exactly her strong suit; maintaining relationships with people simply isn't a priority. Exuding confidence and professionalism, Mei always seems well-put together. She speaks clearly and confidently, never ashamed to voice her opinions and ideas. With a strict sense of discipline, Mei Xing takes care of herself in all aspects of her life. School is her utmost priority, though she also cares greatly for her health. Between long study sessions, she can often be found doing cardio and weight lifting exercises, always keeping herself in shape. She keeps herself on a diet, rarely ever indulging in unhealthy food and drinks (with the exception of social events). Despite being old enough, she does not drink alcohol, often stating that she "prefers to be in control of her own faculties." Headstrong and stubborn, once Mei gets an idea in her head, there is little anyone can do to stop her. While not easily provoked, she can be impulsive when angered. Usually, though, Mei thinks through her actions and tries to make the most logical and objective decisions possible. She has a tight grip over her emotions, remaining cool even under pressure. She has little patience for others' emotional states, perceiving anger and panic as signs of weakness. As a result, she has difficulty showing emotional vulnerability to others. Power and/or Abilities: Enhanced Physical Coordination Mei has greatly enhanced physical coordination. This means she can perform feats of physical ability beyond those of a normal human. From fine motor skills to hand-eye coordination, Mei can accomplish tasks of physical demand quickly and easily. Referring to herself as "hyperkinetic," Mei's motor skills are perfectly in sync with her brain's muscle control and visual information processing. Strengths 🔥Enhanced Motor Skills Mei's motor skills are enhanced beyond those of a normal human. Things like parkour and acrobatics come very easily to her, and she can often perform these feats without much thought. This makes learning physical skills such as martial arts and gymnastics much easier for Mei, as she is able to control her body to a very fine degree. She is also able to use weapons such as knives and swords to an enhanced degree because of this ability. 🔥Perfect Balance Mei has perfect balance; essentially, she can always position herself so that her weight is evenly distributed. This makes tasks such as walking across beams and thin ledges very easy for her. It's very difficult to knock her off-balance, as she is able to easily regain her footing in most circumstances. 🔥Perfect Aim Mei's accuracy is practically flawless due to her increased hand-eye coordination. Throwing knives, hitting moving objects, and even video games are all very easy for her. This also applies to weapons such as guns and bows, though she lacks experience with either. Mei's aim even extends to the point where she can control the outcome of dice simply by throwing them a specific way. 🔥Enhanced Reflexes Due to her coordination, Mei's reflexes are greater than that of a normal person's. She reacts to things much faster and without thought; for example, she can dodge an incoming punch or catch a thrown object easily. Weaknesses: 💢Limited Physical Capability Mei is by no means a god. She is limited by her own body; she is not any stronger, faster, or more durable than the average human her size. In addition, she has to be physically fit enough to perform the tasks her ability lets her carry out. For example, she has to be physically strong enough to wall jump, or flexible enough to do a back handspring. 💢Required Motor Learning While Mei has extremely enhanced coordination, this does not mean physical tasks are simply natural to her. She has to learn how to do something before she can properly perform the task. For instance, she could not simply walk onto a baseball field and hit a home run; she would need to learn the proper technique to be able to accomplish such a feat. While the movement would come more easily to her than the average person, it would not be something she could do automatically. Skills: ✨Skilled Martial Artist She's no Iron Fist, but Mei knows how to throw a punch. Having been introduced to martial arts as a child, she has grown to be very skilled at several different forms. With the help of her power, she can learn-and perform-various martial arts forms with ease. As of now, she is a skilled practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Krav Maga, and Muay Thai. ✨Weapons Usage Some of Mei's martial arts training involved the use of weaponry. This includes knives, swords, and some improvised weapons as well (bottles, pipes, etc). However, Mei's preferred weapon of choice is a pair of brass knuckles; they are easily concealed, dangerous, and very illegal in New York. They allow her to compensate for her small size by increasing the damage that her blows can deal to another person, while also being difficult to use against her. ✨Skilled Gymnast Having started gymnastics from a young age, Mei is a skilled gymnast, thus making her very flexible and athletic. Equipment: 🖤Brass Knuckles When crimefighting, Mei almost always has her brass knuckles on. They are a golden color with sharp “spikes” on the end, giving them the appearance of a cat’s claws. This is part of the reasoning behind the name “Wildcat.” 🖤Knives Strapped to Mei’s ankles are a pair of combat knives. She uses these in more dire circumstances when up against multiple opponents. 🖤Red Hoodie As Wildcat, Mei sports a red hoodie with cat ears on the hood. While she believes the cat ears are a bit childish, they do give her a recognizable appearance as a vigilante. This is another reason she received the moniker of "Wildcat." 🖤Face Mask Along with her red hoodie, Mei wears a red mask covering the lower half of her face. It protects her identity, while also being thin enough to breathe through. Background: "We're humans. We just have the potential to be more." Born to Chinese immigrants, Mei grew up in a time of relative peace in the US. Having been born and raised in New York City, Mei found herself in a cultural melting pot, being exposed to people from all walks of life. Her mother Xiu Ying, a successful lawyer, and her father Wei, a former MMA star, both raised her with a strict disciplinary conduct. However, both parents were still very loving to her, seeing as she was their only child. In all, Manhattan was home to her, a place she felt a sense of belonging to. And yet… Mei always had an innate feeling of disconnect from others. She didn’t make many friends in school, much to the concern of her parents. She never quite understood what made her feel fundamentally different from others, but she knew it was something unique to herself. Her mother feared that Mei might have some form of childhood depression, but never voiced this concern. Mei felt resigned to never understanding this feeling, until the fateful evening of December 20th, 2007, the night her mother was killed. Xiu Ying Fang’s death-at the hands of a vengeful drug dealer she’d convicted-set in motion a dangerous chain of events leading up to Mei’s vigilantism. Her father, stricken with grief from his wife’s death, revealed a dark secret he’d kept from his family for decades: he was what would later be called an Inhuman, a race of genetically altered human beings. Not quite human or mutant, he explained; it was more like alien. In short, her father used his Inhuman status to give him an advantage during his MMA fights. He had the peculiar ability to predict a person’s movements seconds before they acted, thus giving him a keen edge in fights. More importantly, though, he suspected that Mei was like him. And so, Wei Fang enacted a plan: to protect his daughter from ever suffering the same fate as his wife. After smuggling in Terrigen Crystals from China, he exposed Mei to the Terrigen Mist produced by the crystals. When she emerged from Terrigenesis both alive and physically unchanged, Wei knew his suspicions were correct. After putting Mei into both gymnastics and martial arts, her Inhuman-gifted ability became clear: she had perfect coordination. She picked up both with ease, able to learn faster and perform better than even students several years ahead of her. With specialized training from her father, Mei became quite a force to be reckoned with by the time she graduated high school. However, not once did she believe she would have to use her ability. Then, The Snap happened. It didn’t take long for things to get out of hand. Sure, people pretended life was normal, but Mei saw the situation for what it was. Crime, looting, and chaos were rampant all across Manhattan; where before they had heroes to keep criminals at bay, those heroes were gone now. What remained of the police force couldn’t manage the drastically increasing crime rate, and Mei knew it for a certainty. She became paranoid, refusing to walk anywhere by herself; she knew what could happen in a crisis like this. And with her father having been an unlucky victim of The Snap, Mei found herself with nobody to turn to. This all came to a head when, one night, she heard a scream from the street below her apartment. Her first reaction was to call the police, but by the time the dispatcher said police were on their way, Mei knew there wasn't any time. Maybe it was bravery, or perhaps foolishness, but Mei decided she needed to help. Throwing open her window, she managed to scamper down the fire escape just in time to see two men attempting to assault a young woman. It was almost like visceral instinct took over her, as before she knew it, Mei was running toward them without so much as a plan in mind. Muscle memory took control the instant she realized the men were turning on her; somehow, somehow, she was able to chase them off. By the time the police arrived, the men were both long gone. That week, a nagging feeling in the back of Mei’s mind became more and more intrusive. She had a terrifying realization: the police force was outnumbered. If she hadn’t stepped in, those men would have hurt that young woman. Or worse. Maybe, just maybe, her ability was good for more than just self preservation. Her hands were moving a mile a minute, a strange-but convenient-side effect of her ability. Freakishly fast typing speed came in handy in an intensive college course. The professor’s words bounced around the room, a microphone attached to his clothing, ensuring even students hiding in the back of the room could hear him. Mei, however, was perfectly comfortable sitting front-and-center. It motivated her, somehow. Looking up over her screen, she watched as the professor moved to the next slide. Mei closed her eyes for a moment, realizing she still had a half hour left in this class. Fucking gen ed classes. Opening her eyes, she noticed the professor frozen in place, staring forward at his students. The next thing Mei knew, there was screaming coming from behind her. Whipping her head around, she watched as students in the audience began crumbling to dust. People she knew collapsed into ash; others sprinted out of the classroom, practically trampling each other to escape. “Fuck, fuck, fuck...” Mei stuttered, scrambling out of her seat. “M-Mei…” Mei turned to see her professor stumbling forward, a strangled cry coming from him. She recoiled in fear as he reached out to her, as if touching him would cause her to suffer the same fate. His legs gave out beneath him as they vanished, leaving only dust where there once was a man. Mei raised her hands to her face, but they remained intact. Looking around, she could see there were others still alive. Screams erupted from outside, and the faint sounds of car horns blared in the distance. With trembling hands, Mei grabbed her phone, dialing her father’s number. She tried once. Twice. Three times. Nothing. In the days following the crisis, Mei came to learn that her father had vanished, along with half the population of earth. Mei found herself troublingly alone, what few friends she had either dead or in a psychiatric ward. After a month, NYU tentatively resumed classes, consolidating the remaining students into classes with whatever professors were still alive. What she found truly sickening, though, was how normal people pretended to be. As if each and every one of them wasn’t brutally traumatized by what happened. As if nothing happened at all. Maybe it was how they chose to cope, she thought, trying to find some semblance of empathy in herself. But her father was dead, like so many others, and she found that pretending life could be the same impossible. She watched as the city she loved grew into a crime-ridden underworld; people were simply desperate. People she saw as heroes-Daredevil especially-were gone, and the police force was grossly outnumbered by criminals. Mei felt normality was a concept that was entirely foreign to her now. Someone needed to step up.
