Oh! That's a good question, and the answer is yes, the footsteps were loud enough to be heard, but probably not with the same clerity and volume as Mya had heard it, this only because of her enhanced abilities to sense things exclusively in a better way than other subjects who don't have a similar ability. 
I actually really like that idea, that they have spoken before, I just wasn't sure because these are sort of the first few posts? Haha so yes we could have had them speak to each other before.

About the Library: there isn't exactly a library, but there are textbooks, documents, "poetry"(I put this in quotes because though they are taught many things, they aren't really taught how to use creativity in writing), and there are classic novels and novellas, all in the schooling area, the large building that's attached to the dining hall (bottom-left section of the map of the island). I hope this clarified any questions you might have had about where any books can be found ^_^
