Thia had been well fed all winter, having found meals for herself daily along with Cuyler’s supply. Although Cuyler didn’t make a lot of money, he had made enough to get by but that hardly phased him. The simple friendship that had started between him and the ExtraOrdinary Wizard had transformed into something exotic and precious to him and that is what commanded all of his attention these days. Thia trotted faithfully beside her companion as they walked from the Trader’s Market towards the Wizard’s Tower. Thia knew exactly where they were going and if it wasn’t for the crowd she would be waiting on the step of the Wizard’s Tower already. She enjoyed the time spent with Ayra but not nearly as much as Cuyler. Cuyler adjusted the pack on his shoulder as he maneuvered around the crowd, the white of the Tower acting as a beacon for him. He had been back for two weeks now, after going back to the Land of Lost Nights almost two months ago to resupply his trading wares and get that mead Rowland requested. Before he left though, the Sickenesse had spread through the Castle at an alarming rate so when he returned home, he visited with several healers in order to get some possible remedies and to question if they had ever heard of such a thing. He carried those supplies in his pack now, wanting to give Ayra a supply of them. He had started to notice the increase of headaches within his love and it worried him. Rowland and Atkin had also seemed to be developing these first stage symptoms as well, so he made sure to bring extra supplies. It didn’t seem to respond to anything Magykal so Cuyler hoped this would help. The crowd seemed to open up as they came within several feet of Wizard Tower and Cuyler hurried forward, slipping the badge out of his pocket and pressed it against the door. Automatically the door swung open, allowing Cuyler entry. He sighed thankfully and stepped in with Thia. Now to determine where Arya was. It was still morning so Cuyler assumed she would be getting to her morning tea to set the day off. Thia seemed to have the same conclusion and she started up the stairs, well ahead of Cuyler to find Ayra. It was far more superior than anything Amarantha had worn but since her position change, she learned to indulge in the finer things; including, the purchase of a dragon skin fighting suit that she wore during missions around the Castle. The commander of the Palace Guard and Young Army flicked her right wrist, revealing her hidden blade. She adjusted the settings with her knife before she pushed a hidden button to bring the blade back in. Shadows fell across her face as she looked up to the sound of metal on metal. Amarantha had been up for hours already, having gone through a perimeter check in the pre-dawn light and then moved to check the weapons store. Now, dressed in her clothes for the wedding, she stood off to the side as she watched her men and woman train. With Queen Valda’s permission, she grew the Palace Guard and restarted the Young Army but on a better note. The children who remained were put to work all the same: laundry, weapons maintenance and recon within the Castle walls. Those aged between 13-18 started a training process that was mandatory. Once they turned 18, if they chose to remain in services to the Guard, they could go back to their tasks and train the younger children or, they were put through more rigorous training to join the Guard or an elite team that Amarantha ran herself. This group of highly trained people completed most of their tasks during the night, in the hidden places that nobody wished to venture to but it was required to keep the Castle safe. In the middle of the training grounds now was her second-in-command, Titan, going toe-to-toe with a promising new Palace Guard recruit, Lennox. As usual they were surrounded with a range of bets being placed on who would win. Amarantha’s money would forever be on Titan, but she wasn’t a betting woman. She watched as Lennox remained ever silent and calculating while Titan strutted around, a smug smile on his face. It wasn’t until Lennox faltered a step that caused Titan to pounce and land the first hit against his opponent. The smile left his lips but a twinkle remained in his eyes as they fell into the game of cat and mouse. Pushing away from the wall, Amarantha walked towards the crowd. The sun glinted off of her gold necklace more easily as she walked. Without a word, the crowd shifted before her until he was standing at the front. Lennox opened his guard and Titan pounced, knocking the noble on his ass. Titan pointed the sword tip at Lennox’s throat, his adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. Amarantha clapped twice and they looked up at their commander. ”Playtime is over boys. Time to get cleaned up,” she purred. Another luxury. Amarantha was used to bathing in ice rivers but here they had warm water that never seemed to end and she pushed that onto her people. Nothing looked better than a clean and crisp army that could slice your throat with a simple shift to the right. Titan grinned at his commander. “Do I get a kiss for winning another round?” he asked, resting the tip of his sword on the ground and leaned on the hilt. Amarantha walked over to him, batting her eyelashes as she peered into his own blue eyes. Even though Titan was hunched over, he was still a couple heads above her eye line. Their eyes locked and it only took a second for Amarantha to kick his sword out from under him and push back on his unbalanced top half, where he stepped back, hitting her leg and fell onto his own back. Amarantha sat on top of him, lips inches from his. ”I have a better idea. You can make sure every weapon is sharp enough to leave a mark on that pretty face of yours.” She stood back up and flicked a piece of dirt off her tunic. ”And do be on time for the wedding Titan. I would hate to have to cause a scene,” she said before walking away. No one moved until Amarantha’s form was around the corner before laughter broke out through the crowd and jeers directed towards Titan. Amarantha smirked as she walked into the Palace, a spring in her step as she went. Princess Luna would be with Prince Tristan at the present moment and she wasn’t going to leave the couple unattended. Serving as Luna’s personal guard, she also took it upon herself to be her chaperone as well. There was something about Tristan that made her want to stick closer when he was around. No one was that nice.
