A product of the foster care system, Karen never knew her birth parents and given that they didn't want her - so she assumes - she's never felt the desire to track them down; she just hopes they're happy, wherever they are while wondering from time to time if they ever think about her. Passed around from family to family due to various circumstances, most notably a foster family whose Pater familias had a harddrive full of illegal images and videos, Karen didn't truly find a home until she was thirteen. She found it in Willoughby, Ohio, a town noted only for its proximity to Cleveland and its annual BBQ Rib Festival. Karen had trouble making friends in school at first, given her troubles for the first thirteen years of her life she was accustomed to disappointment, but Willoughby was a nice little town and she was nothing if not determined to make the best of a bad hand of poker. Her first year of school saw Karen not exactly making friends in the traditional sense but she certainly left an impression. It wasn't exactly normal for a Freshman to help with the prom planning and decoration or pep rally decoration or to join the Homecoming committee but Karen was there for all of them, happy to help hang banners or help set up and rearrange furniture or do supply runs; when Karen went to Homecoming she didn't have a date and she didn't dance with anyone other than herself but she was smiling the widest just from looking at the handiwork she put in to make sure the others were having a great time. By the time graduation rolled around, her senior superlative was 'Most Likely to Harbor a Fugitive' as well as 'Best Smile'. After high school she traveled to the east coast to attend broadcasting school. Being something of a romantic and utterly fond of cheesy romance movies, Karen loves the notion that there's a soul mate out there for everyone even if until recently she was under the impression that it was nothing more than a fancy pipe dream. Karen had always been the type to fall hard and often in unrequited fashion. Overly fond of the 'lipstick lesbian' type, throughout university she pined for various girls and never made a move apart from one time at a party that involved her oversharing and then leaving the party like a mouse scurrying out of the sunlight. The relationships she has had have never lasted beyond the six month period and well into her mid-thirties she'd all but given up to live with her two cats, Raggedy Anne and Haggardly Randi who she loves dearly. Karen resides in Boston and works as a morning dj on the easy listening station which makes her audience basically the middle aged working men and women of the greater Boston area. When she isn't easing people into the working day with soft jams and her gentle, positive radio voice, she's doing volunteer work around the city. If there's a community event, chances are Karen is involved - and she attends local government meetings as an interested and concerned citizen. She really hopes for the best with her String...but history hasn't been the kindest to Karen Scaletti and even if things don't work out...if there's one thing that's constant in the ever changing world it's the smiling face of Karen Scaletti.
[sub]
strings
[/sub]
⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup]
[sub]
other information
[/sub]
dialogue colour: #FFFF00 faceclaim: Kate Micucci theme song: Once I was strong but I lost the fight. The move came at the age where Emiri was old enough to miss Japan and dread moving to a country around the world and away from her friends. Her mother kept saying how they would have to adjust and smile for the father's sake and Emiri was nothing if not a good daughter in that regard. It was something of a culture shock for the young girl and it wasn't even until secondary education that she started to come out of her shell a bit and embrace the change. Part of that is attributed to Zoey, a friend she made in college who Emily felt a bond with - and not in the red String sort of way that seemed all the rage. Emily was two years older but their friendship was strong to the point where they presently room together. It was during her university days that Emily became more social and outgoing; she was still homesick, of course, but she stopped looking at the new country with a bit of disgust and apprehension. Never mind the fact that her String seemed to suggest that she was exactly where she was supposed to be; she's not exactly a believer in such notions. The final year of college Emily got accepted into an apprenticeship at Oishi Sushi, a rather well known establishment owned and operated by a professionally trained and ornery sushi chef. Emily, who was a business major, initially found the place in college and used it to get a bit of a taste for home before falling in love with it to the point of changing the course of her career path. Business was not a passion. This was. The apprenticeship is difficult, to say the least, and she's almost a year into it which means she'll start having a more active role in the preparation of the various dishes on offer. Working at Oishi Sushi, noted for its exquisite offerings and authenticity and fresh ingredients, is doing wonders to make Emily not long for a return trip home. Of course, once she takes over Oishi Sushi she might not get a chance to go home again. She might not fully be over home, but she's definitely where she wants, and needs, to be.
