Description: Kūki, as appearances may lead someone to believe, is an outgoing, young girl many would describe as brimming with optimism. To her, the glass is always half full, and there's always something good to take away from a situation, no matter how dire. While not so social so as to be overbearing towards others, if she sees someone looking particularly alone, she'll make it a point to go over and introduce herself. Capable of understanding where there's a need for space, Kūki will back up if given the hint, but not without worry.

Born into the world to a widow that would soon find herself incarcerated, Kūki has been an orphan since birth — a fact that probably ultimately turned out for the better. The staff and other children alike made sure the girl was never wanting for love and affection, her bubbly personality oft being in the spotlight. To most of the other orphans, she was glimmer of hope, of sorts — a reminder that it's still okay to smile. Still, some criticized her, telling her she didn't know what it was actually like to be abandoned, as she never knew her parents to begin with; feelings that Kūki could understand. She couldn't claim to share in their pain, but she was steadfast in assuring them that they should still smile and see where it takes them.

When she was eight years old, Kūki was adopted by an elderly woman incapable of sight. Though she could not see, her decision to adopt the young girl was made almost instantly upon meeting the girl. "Such a bright light should not be left in the shadows," is what she said at that time. The woman established early that she didn't wish for Kūki to call her mother, instead offering her first name, Namiko. Kūki agreed, and even refers to her as Namiko even when speaking to others about her.

Growing up with Namiko, Kūki knew good grades in school and more friends than one could wave a stick at. Her personality made her aspiration almost a given, and it came as no surprise to anyone when she made her proclamation. She would become a hero; one that's always smiling.
