He’s preferred to avoid conflict when it begins to appear, resulting in a pattern of few enemies or close friends in his life, just a peaceful coexistence being his default state. He rarely showed passion in most things, working hard in school when necessary but never going to the next level to truly excel. As the oldest of three he found himself listening to his parents rather often because he knew that he would hear about it if he was setting a negative example for his siblings, but did it more out a desire to make them happy rather than actually agreeing with them. It was around college age when his interests started to diversify. He joined a couple student organizations but never felt like he truly belonged, and found himself spending most his time outside of class in the library. After long hours of studying he liked to clear his mind by wandering the stacks and random and picking out a book completely unrelated to what he had been working on. Over time he fixated on philosophy and religion, because it had no shortage of great questions to puzzle over. He managed to get minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies on top of masters in Statistics, causing a minor spat with his parents when it added an extra year to his studies, but all was forgiven when landed a good position with an accounting firm out in Minneapolis. He headed off and said goodbye to the few people he knew at Berkley, his time there overall feeling more like a lonesome journey than joining a community. In Minneapolis his demeanor did not change much. He worked as a competent but anonymous man inside the corporate hierarchy, and in his spare time he grappled with the great questions and searched for somewhere to belong. A half dozen bad bookclubs, a few churches, three different discussion groups and one legendarily bad attempt at stand-up comedy all proved to be not what he was looking for, and so his search continued. For a while he began to doubt the point of community at all, envying the old sages and scholars who lived isolated lives as they sought to defeat the doubt within themselves, but a part of him still wanted to find some connection with the larger world. His thoughts changed when he got more interested in the phenomenon of soul mates, trying to understand what they meant to people. Once he found out that his own soul mate was in Boston, he knew what he needed to next. In short order he was interviewing for jobs and finding a new place to live, settling down in the city where he would find his other half. Her parents were the sort who encouraged curiosity and inquisitive behavior, and so they were very happy to see her keep this tendency as she grew up. Each was eager to provide motivation and guidance, though there was a notable lack of warmth between them. Perhaps it was because each had a demanding career, one in business and one in medicine, or maybe it was a reflection of the tension in their own relationship. A divorce never really came, it could because that would and admission of failure, because it would create a messy legal situation, or because each of them was already satisfied with the businesslike atmosphere the relationship had taken on by the time the early infatuation had started to slip away. Growing up she understood the value of having a perfect image. Good grades, elite friends, leadership positions, her high school experience read like a checklist rather than a coherent narrative. Despite the amount of social ties they all lacked true depth, for her they were more like field experiments. She behaved in a certain way to get to a goal, often to observe those she found interesting up close. Sometimes this took on a more manipulative dimension, playing with emotions and forcing desired outcomes, but she was careful enough to avoid getting blamed herself. All of this paid off when she was accepted into MIT, and began the next phase of her life. Once she was inside academia, she knew this was where she belonged. The bachelor’s degree was merely a formality along the way, and afterwards she thrust herself into serious research. The exact discipline shifted but the underlying focus on cognition and decision making always remained, whether the papers found their way into a psychology journal or a conference on game theory. By now she is one of the young rising stars among the professors at MIT, greatly enjoying the work she does and the recognition she receives. In Boston she has found a limited amount of time for interests outside of her work. She still maintains a large social circle, mimicking her high school tendencies, though since everyone is more mature there is a little less drama involved. Simone also has taken up habit of rigorous exercise, taking great pleasure in her early morning jogs around the campus before making her way to her office at MIT’s CSAIL. The thought of Soul mates is something she pays little attention to at the moment, but the amount of talk in her friend circle about the subject often forces her to think about it. She knows her soul mate is in Boston, a fact that alternately troubles and comforts her.
[sub]
strings
[/sub]
⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] ⎯⎯⎯⎯[s]𝓘𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓽𝔂 𝓤𝓷𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷[/s]⎯⎯⎯⎯ [sup]Character's thoughts on this person here.[/sup] You may choose how many green (friendship), purple (lust) or orange (rivalry) strings your character has up to a maximum of five total.
