Cole Porter wrote comedic musicals for Broadway in the 1930's ^^ Musical comedies were popular back then because after the great depression, people needed happy entertainment to distract them from the country's economy. Lots of funny shows were written at that time Some of Porter's famous ones are Kiss Me Kate and Anything Goes Same!
