I can see Fix, unwilling to piss off Lotus, not making Sam one of his "friends" but in exchange for info/discreet work, he'd probably want to know more about her magical talent. He's likely heard many tales of magic, as when he was a child he lived in an elven conclave. But here style of magic is likely something that he hasn't heard of before, and that probably intrigues him. Maybe he only charges a fraction of the cost for his work done for her, but the rest of that is made up with her telling him about her magic?
