In a jewelry store in Gotham a blonde woman returned to the counter carrying a ring box. "Here you go, Mr. Davidson." she said to a fifty-something man who was standing there with a twenty-something woman. "Three karat top-grade diamond in a platinum ring." The blonde opened the case and the twenty something squealed with glee. "Perfect." Mr. Davidson said. "Ring me up." As she did so he continued. "That's what I like about you. You know exactly what I want and don't charge me extra to not tell my wife." "Well, I'm already making a 20% commission. No need to double dip." Mr. Davidson smiled and the twenty-something woman looked at the the blonde jealously, so she quickly continued. "Owe, you don't have to worry about me stealing him. I'm done with dating older men." Before the woman could respond there was an explosion outside. The rest of the people ran towards the front door to see what was happening but a strange creature carrying a weapon entered, blocking them in. "Oh, no." the blonde said, and her eyes started to glow yellow. She thrust out her hand and the ring flew out of the case and straight through the creature's head. The ring floated back and she grabbed it, her eyes returning to normal. "Uh, I'll run that through the washer, Mr. Davidson. I'm sure you don't want it right now." Some sort of black goop dripped from between her fingers. Mr. Davidson was about to say something when another, closer, explosion took out the front windows and several more of the creatures started approaching the front door. "Get them into the vault." She told the manager, who was standing there, staring at the approaching creatures. "What is going on here, Miss Markov?" he demanded. "Parademons." she replied. "No time to explain. Just do it." Her eyes began to glow again, and everything with a crystal in it in the showroom began to float. "I'll hold them off."
One week ago the forces of Apokolips arrived in this star system. While several of their ships attacked the Watchtower in orbit, most of them entered the atmosphere and began landing a billion parademons. While the Justice League was able to hold them off for almost a day, eventually they had to abandon the Watchtower. They moved to the surface, however, and and joined the fight there, as many superhumans, hero and villain, had done. The combined forces, including every nation's military and many that were released from prison on the grounds that they fight for their respective countries, an idea put forth by Amanda Waller, were able to hold the alien invaders at bay for three days. They finally fell when Darkseid himself showed up and joined the fight, killing the four Kryptonians which challenged him, Superman, Supergirl, Power Girl, and Bizarro, and hanging their corpses in Metropolis' central park. He then sent out his new gods to hunt down anyone of significant power that stood against them, to capture them for conversion if possible and kill them if necessary. The Green Lantern John Stewart managed to get a message out to Oa before he was killed, along with the other Lanterns, but it is doubtful that his or anyone else's pleas for help will be answered.
We are lesser know characters and OCs that managed to live through it. Maybe we are metas, mages, or just tech nerds that found someone's tech cache, but now have to fight back to drive them off the Earth. Hero, Villain, other, it doesn't matter. We all have our reasons to fight.
Name: Tara Markov Super Name: Terra Appearance: She carries a bag full of crystals from the jewelry store she used to work for. Powers: Geokinesis: she can move rocks and dirt. She currently prefers fast moving crystals, but she can move several hundred tonnes of stone if necessary. Tech: Nanotube weave armor: created for her by Deathstroke almost ten years ago. It was designed to protect against piercing weapons and energy blasts. It's too thin and flexible to do much against blunt weapons. Tactical headset: Gives her a HUD of nearby threats, projects an illusionary screen and keyboard to work as a computer, and acts as communications equipment. Energy pistol: A backup weapon in case she needs it. Salvaged from one of Deathstroke's safe houses. Nanite Healing bands: These devices diagnose the medical condition of the wearer and inject just enough nanites to repair any damage. They aren't designed for regeneration, so one band doesn't even have enough nanites to regrow your pinky finger, but they do well at closing cuts. Prototype teleporter band: This device can teleport you to any preprogrammed location on the planet. The main reason Deathstroke doesn't use it is that it damages you in the process. Personality: She was finally getting here life back together, working in a jewelry store and going to college for a degree in geology. But then someone showed up and decided to conquer the planet. As you can probably guess, she's angry about this and wants to kill as many of them as she can. Of course, as long as you're on her team she'll play nice. At least as long as you're being useful to her. She learned at a young age that you can't trust people. Everyone manipulates each other, then betrays you as soon as it's in their best interest. The only ways to win in such a game is to either not play, which she can't do as long as she's part of society, and to be better at it than everyone else. Bio: (include why you weren't taken or killed) She grew up on the road. Her dad was a trucker, her mom trailer trash with too many kids. When she learned she had powers at the age of 10 she tried to figure out how to use them, but when she was 12 her mom caught her and kicked the "freak" out. She tried to find her dad, hitchhiking her way to the different truck stops in the area to see if anyone had seen him recently, but none had. One creepy trucker decided that he wouldn't mind having a little girl, and invited her to live with him. He wanted something other than a daughter, though, and she left, but not before making his nice stone cabin collapse on him, burying him in what used to be the basement. She eventually met the Teen Titans, but when she learned she couldn't trust them either she left. Eventually, at the age of 15, she met a mercenary named Deathstroke that offered to train her. He taught her to fight and eventually they became more than just master and apprentice. When she was 19 Deathstroke started losing often in battle against the Justice League and took his frustrations out on her. She decided she didn't want to be in that kind of a relationship and left, this time going native. She moved to Gotham and used the bank account Slade had set up for her to go to the local college, where she hoped to major in geology and get a job surveying for minerals. While Slade never closed down her account, the money started to run out and she decided to get a job at a jewelry store rather that return to him. She was working at that store when the invasion began and, while she defended the customers and her fellow employees from them, she knew she couldn't win the fight which wasn't hers to begin with. She took all of the bloody gems with her when they evacuated for the government shelters but instead of going with the others she went to one of Deathstroke's old safe houses. Why do you fight?: They ruined her life and, while she hopes that she can drive them away and return to her old life, if she can't do that she can at least get revenge.
