Its not Quantum Leap but Sliders, Emily is a good person so she will help people who need her help but its not actually required she like Quinn Mallory is trapped in a search of the Continuum with no support at least in the beginning. 

She doesn't know how it works, she can't get rid of it and she can't stop it from flipping her from one reality to the next like a whim. In this Emily is the rally point and her companions can get off the ride by steering clear of her when the Siege shows signs it will soon steal her away.
