This! That first impression is the most important thing. You only get [i]one[/i] of those, and the people who put the effort into those interest checks or first posts are definitely making the better ones. Interest checks are built to [i]grab interest[/i]. Putting in a few plot hooks/bunnies (I think I've seen people call them bunnies before?) might help too!
