They were asking these idiots for help? Once Wario managed to round up his cowardly brother, on Frisk’s order, Cloud took his position at their side. The boss door was opened and the thick black aura made the hair rise on the back of the swordsman’s neck. It reminded him of his battle with Sephiroth in The Crater when he had absorbed the Black Materia. The energy was evil, and naturally his gloved hand reached behind his head to grasp the hilt of his Butterfly Edge. Cloud descended with the others into the final room. As they light gradually faded and the darkness embraced them, Cloud began to reflect on how far they had come. Frisk’s pacifistic nature had allowed them to skip a lot of unnecessary drama. It was almost as if he couldn’t believe they were actually here. Wario and Waluigi started to show their yellow bellies. Cloud merely passed them. The last step had him standing at the mouth of an empty chamber. Hunched over on metal legs and breathing hard was King Dedede. He didn’t look or sound good one bit, and Cloud’s grip uncomfortably tightened on his sword. Frisk did what they did best and attempted to talk to the penguin boss, but Cloud shook his head. He quietly muttered to Frisk, “He’s infected. The gnorcs looked like this, and there was no cure for them.” It was as though his own realization had compelled him to finally draw his sword from its sheath and ready it before him. It didn’t help to encourage peace between Frisk and the infected boss, but based on his experience, Cloud was convinced that there would be no saving Dedede even if he did tell them where Mario’s hat and soul was.
