During the period in which Japan was self-isolated, scientific knowledge from the West was obtained through Dutch traders. Books were traded and analyzed about the Western sciences which was a start to Japan's industrialization. » 1787 | News of the first flight of a hot air balloon by French bothers in 1783 was reported in the Sayings of the Dutch. This new technology was heavily intrigued by Japanese scientists; which then later may have been used to create balloon bombs that may have been used in Manchuria, 1930's. » 1805 | Demonstration of the hot air balloon technologies was shared in front of Japanese delegates by a two Swiss and Prussian scientists, accompanied by Joseph-Michel Montgolfier, one of the brothers that discovered the hot air balloon. Prior to returning to his home, Montgolfier and the other scientists docked in Kuji. There was word that the washi paper originated from this village and they were interested to see how this paper could be used to further their invention. » 1806 | The two scientists that accompanied Montgolfier returned to their respective homes the following year. Montgolfier decided to stay behind to learn the crafting of the washi paper. Shortly after his apprenticeship completed, Montgolfier met Asuna Ueno, a practicing kikuya (geisha artisan) at the Kuji Okiya. He later learned that the Ueno family were descendants of the Hone-onna demon and worship the deity in secret. The eldest daughter is also tasked to hold the powers of the Hone-onna demon, as the tale says she would return one day to take it back. Asuna in this case, was the eldest daughter in the Ueno family. This does not stop Montgolfier from falling in love with Asuna and he vows to keep her secret. » 1820-1827 | Deciding to stay in the Kuji region, Montgolfier continued to practice making washi paper, opening the trades from the Kuji port to his hometown in France. Montgolfier's brother and partner sent word that the Japanese paper was the key item to successfully produce the hot air balloon without issues. After years of saving the money, Montgolfier finally was able to become the danna for Asuna and moved her into his establishment. » 1829 | Little Jun is born. » 1835 | The secret of the Ueno family and Kuji Okiya leaked to the villagers of Kuji and they demanded justice. It was said that no worshiper of a demon would be allowed to live. Every Ueno member and Kuji Okiya geisha was dragged from their homes and burned at a stake. Shortly after, Montgolfier and little Junko escaped the village with the help from a sympathizer. He adopted Ueno as the last name for Junko and brought her to France where should would be raised. » 1857 | As an ally to England, Montgolfier wanted to give Junko the ability to use her powers for good and not be ashamed of it. Such like her mother, Junko was the eldest and only daughter from the previous Hone-onne vessel. Asuna's abilities were granted to Junko shortly after she had passed. Montgolfier luckily had pull after establishing the trade route from France to Japan and sent in a request to England to take his daughter in. Junko later that year was accepted to utilize her powers as the Hone-onna demon and serve The Queen's Hand. A B I L I T Y » Purlion » Junko is able to "steal" from others. This ability is not towards tangible and physical items, but rather what is inside of the person. Whatever she steals is disabled to the other person. » Restrictions | Includes having to be physically touching the person to allow her abilities to work. Whatever Junko steals, she also feels. Due to the limited volume of emotions Junko would prefer not to feel, she is careful to utilize her powers. » Examples | Stealing memories for data will require Junko to touch the person. Whatever the person felt during the time of the memory, Junko will feel it. The level of what she feels will be dependent on how the person felt during the moment of the memory. This also includes emotions, which will disable feelings from the person touched, transferring them to Junko. D E P A R T M E N T » Support
