Though she helped her family (her mother, father, and two older brothers), she didn't much enjoy it. She would often skip out on work to explore and engage in antics with the other children. At the age of 10, Yumiko's older brother got into a fight with a Fire Nation general who came to pick up supplies. Though her brother won the fight, the general did not take kindly to a "lowly water tribesman" besting him, and sent for her brother to be taken prisoner. Later, her family heard the news that he fought back and was killed.[/i][/indent][/indent]

[indent][i]After her brother's death at the hands of the Fire Nation, Yumiko made sure she would honor her brother. Growing an intense hatred of the Fire Nation, she left home early on to start making a name of herself, slowly gathering allies to meet her needs. Above all else, she looked out for herself. Never trusting anyone to a point of friendship, she moved around, visited various cities, hung around taverns or markets. She often slept on the street or wherever she could find a place. She always made her opinions known, especially if a Fire Nation member was nearby. Though in her head she knows not all Fire Nation people are bad, she detests anyone who wishes to be affiliated with them.[/i][/indent][/indent]

[indent][i]In her mind, Yumiko aims to lead the rebellion against the Fire Nation. She believes no one should be above the others and that all be considered equal and treated as such. Those with too much authority often cannot be trusted, as evidenced by her brother's death. She wants to be a leader, but if she has to go at it alone, she will. Eventually she may want to settle down, but the fire of passion burns within her still.[/i][/indent][/indent]
