He hasn't yet received the battle markings of his coworkers, though he has a range of black tattoos including the likeness of waves on his chest above his heart, a winding serpent around his ankle, and a trident on his back right shoulder-blade. Therein he forgoes tradition and the will of his father in the typical path of a young warrior, for a more free-spirited life of raiding and piracy. When all is said and done the sea and freedom of the open ocean is his ultimate calling and his one true love. The sigh of the wind in the sails, and the ebb and flow of the oceans rolling underfoot is what gives him joy, alongside piles of ill-gotten gains and the thrill of adventure of course.[/i][/indent][/indent]

The clink of coin, the cry of the seabirds, and the sounds of shanties puts a smile on his face as he roars out the lyrics alongside his crewmates off key, but with an unmatched vigor. Alternatively, those who would put a stop to his lawlessness, the organized navies of the world whose only goal is halting hard working, and free born pirates and ensnaring them in chains puts a rage in Shannuk's heart. Landlubbers, stringent tradition and the bindings of society make him squirm and wretch and fume.[/i][/indent][/indent]

[indent][i]Shannuk was always a troublesome child. His father Hakaran was determined to fashion his youngest son into a dedicated and disciplined warrior of the Southern Water Tribe, drilling him night and day in the art of basic bending, sailing and fighting. Yet despite his best efforts little Shannuk didn't grow into a young warrior, but a dirty rouge, his braid always out of place, a wild grin on his face, and scabby knees and welts from his childish antics. Of course, his childish antics didn't stay that way for long. As he grew older the antics became criminal, and the pranks unforgivable. Shannuk and his Hakaran grew more and more at odds, until the boy's fifteenth year when his father disowned him outright, and Shannuk was left to his own devices. Leaving home in a rage Shannuk stole a small whaler seacraft and sailed north towards the Earth Continent officially becoming a pirate in the eyes of the Southern Navy. He embraced the title with far more willingness than that of a warrior, diving headfirst into the life.

	When he reached the first port on the mainland he signed on to crew a South Sea Coastal Raider, serving as first a deck swab and then a border. His water bending talents were in high demand for the raiders who saw talent in him. For Shannuk's part he found freedom at last, and he enjoyed relieving others from their valuables. And he was good at all of it. Sailing, raiding, fighting was his calling if such a thing could be believed.

[indent][i]Shannuk's days are a myriad of possibilities and adventure. One day he might be aiding in chasing small fishers along the Black Coast, and the next he could be sneaking ashore under the cover of darkness in flat bottomed canoes to raid coastal settlements. Although he is a lower member of the crew, occasionally confined to choirs such as sail shifting and deck swabbing his natural bending abilities make him a valuable asset to his captains. Of course there are stretches of boredom on the high seas where Shannuk is happy to engage in games of dice and drunken brawls with his crew mates.

During one such stretch the ship he was aboard became becalmed and spotted by the Fire Nation's accursed steam powered cruisers. Unable to escape the ship was boarded and the crew, including Shannuk were taken prisoner to be dealt with on a later date. [/i][/indent][/indent]

[indent][i] Although he is forced to tolerate the orders of his superiors for the time being, Shannuk longs for the day he might command a crew of his own, becoming the notorious and infamous pirate captain Shannuk the Terrible or something like that.
