[@Exit] Swimming was everything for me, especially because living in the Midwest there isn't much else to do in the summer. Thankfully I never had to "save" anyone until college. Swimming at a quarry with a student organization that I was the vice-president for, a group of us went out and raced across the quarry and one of the swimmer's leg cramped and couldn't swim, he was exactly in the middle of the quarry and just went down and panicked. Luckily, I saw him go down and was fast enough to get him and pull him to shore where one of my roommates (who was also a lifeguard) was able to help me pull him out. It's hard when you're an average height guy like myself trying to save a dude who is a bit taller and bulkier than you. All and all, wouldn't want to do it again, just happy I had the confidence and necessary skill then to help out though.
