You see the angels/angelic beings (like Cherubim) were originally massive celestial entities that could destroy entire galaxies with their pressence alone. (They were like this before creation mind you.) And God, gathered them together and told them about His plan for creation. He told them that in order for Him to create the universe, the angels had to lower themselves (in other words become as we know them from various texts, myths, etc.) so the new universe wouldn't be annihilated and order could be maintained.

They agreed and God created the universe, then man. And over the course of several years after the creation, while Adam and Eve were still in Eden, Lucifer became angry at his maker. He reasoned that beings like himself shouldn't have their power limited for lesser creatures like us.

And that's how the rebellion happened and the Fall (of man), etcetera, etcetera.
