For some reason, Diego was awake earlier than usual that day. Maybe it had been the heat. Maybe it was the sound of the intermittent breeze. Whatever the reason, he dressed in his bunk, then sprang to his feet. The boy had an idea, and his amber eyes sparkled. He had a great idea. "Rise and shine boys and girls!" he called out with a lilt in his voice, just loud enough to wake everyone up, but not enough to escape the cabin, "I've got a great idea-" And with that, he somehow convinced everyone in his cabin to sneak out to the lake. Honestly, it was more than he had expected. Though, as they proceeded to sneak through the campground, Diego kept a silent head count. Mostly, this was to make sure no one was about to go turncoat on them, but a part of him wanted to make sure that everyone made it there in one piece. Boy, wouldn't that just ruin the morning if someone got hurt or anything.
Diego was floating on his back, eyes squinted to shield against the summer sun. Seeing the silhouettes of no less than three of his bunkmates on shore through the shadows of his eyelashes was a bit disappointing. Letting out a soft sigh, he turned to a more vertical position, treading water slightly as he reached up and waved. "Hey, Conrad!" he called out, "C'mon! What's the point of sneaking out to the lake if you don't, ya' know, use the lake?" There was, however, no time for a reply. It seemed the young boy was on a totally different track as he let out a loud whistle. Diego begrudgingly swam to shore, before drying himself off and getting re-dressed. He had been about to ask Conrad what was up, when he noticed that it almost looked like it was going to rain, but not quite. It didn't smell like it was going to rain, at least. Still, something weird was going on. That much was obvious. So maybe going back to the cabin wasn't such a bad idea? Especially if the camp counselors were coming to check on them. As the group crested a slight hill which looked over the campground, Diego caught something strange out of the corner of his eye. A cursory glance yielded a strange result. Snow? That was impossible. And yet- And yet a cluster of bright white flakes seemed to be drifting down above them. As they neared, however, they were obviously more bright, and larger than they had initially appeared. One such object seemed to flutter before Diego. Without a second thought, he reached up, snatching the light out of the air in a single hand.
