She dropped to the ground and covered her ears, trying to block the awful sound. There was no getting around the memory as it flashed into her head, showing her what she had heard all those years ago when her mother called. She told them to run, to leave and not come back for her. And then the gun went off and the line went dead. She couldn’t handle that again. The bullets from the agents pounded into the ice shield but Agent Flynn’s bullets were hitting people and they were dropping. As each agent fell, Antoinette’s head got a little lighter. Through the sound of battle, she heard Agent Flynn question her. Annie looked up, tears in her eyes as she tried to push past the fear that was threatening to swallow her whole. ”I’m….I’m not sure,” she stammered. ”I’ve never used my powers in a fight. I can cast illusions, but not very well and not on many people,” Annie managed to get out. Each time a gun went off she would flinch and have to start over again in her sentence. Annie hadn’t used her powers much at all. Only with her father, when he said it was okay, when they were trying to train but anytime they had to leave, to run. That’s what she did. Ran and never looked back.
