I'm assuming the person he met on the road is an Akitsushiman swordsman, but there's no details so it could be anyone. I would suggest filling that out. Plus I'd like to point out that kendo is just sport swordplay. It's not for actual fighting. Kenjutsu is proper Japanese swordplay.

Also, about the little merchant. Where in Akitsushima is her hometown? Could be a chance Kyoshiro be familiar with the craftsmanship.
