She was sure the little wretch was perfectly aligned with the crossbow’s sight, only to hear the disappointing clank of the bolt hitting stone. “Fuck, fuck, fuck...” Lua hissed to herself while she reloaded the bow. Lucian called out her name and her head whipped up.”Huh-“ The apprentice turned to see another disfigured corpse skittering along the ceiling. It’s arms were bent the wrong direction, reaching downwards towards them. What was it moving it, then?! Putting herself in front of Shiara turned out to be advantageous after all, but not for the reason Lua expected. The Cursed man would’ve been upon her before the apprentice had another shot readied, had the bone mage not intervened. The apprentice was impressed and thankful to see their enemy stopped short by Shiara’s magic. How long the bone woman could hold him off, Lua wasn’t sure. She fired again, this time hitting her target. The bolt sunk deep into the Cursed man’s back just to the left of the head. The creature dropped down, hissing and snarling at Shiara but unable to reach them. Its arms fumbled clumsily as the poison wax sizzled in the wound like cooking bacon, though the smell was infinitely less appetizing. It spun around while it tried to pull the bolt out and revealed how it had crawled along the ceiling. The creature’s ribs had burst through the rotting flesh of the man’s chest and formed insect-like limbs. The rib-limbs clacked against each other while they flailed about. After a moment of horrified hesitation, Lua stepped around the bone mage. The creature’s head turned to her on its elongated neck with a blood-choked snarl. Lua swung the crossbow. The blade along the underside sliced easily through the Cursed man’s neck. The head fell face down in the muck. The body was blind now, but otherwise undeterred. Decapitation was only a start. Total dismemberment would be required to stop the thing completely.
