As an adult, he was renowned for being casually arrogant, apathetic, callous and a hedonist who enjoyed the finer things in life, namely drinking, gambling, partying and flirting. However, it is shown that Tony does care for people, especially his friends. Although Tony causes trouble on occasion, he is more than willing to make up for his mistakes, which is also why he became a superhero. Eccentric, brilliant, outgoing and cocky, Tony is a classic playboy, with his wealth, power, and natural charm allowing him to get just about any woman he wants. But despite his rather carefree and overly confident personality, inside Tony's heart lies loneliness, as Ho Yinsen aptly described him as: "A man that has everything, but has nothing". Even following his reformation and birth as Iron Man, this stigma surrounding Tony persisted as many were quick to point fingers at him believing his arrogance and callous attitudes were the cause of many problems even if he would have only a tenuous connection to the issue at hand.

History
Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark was born on Friday, May 29, 1970, in Manhattan, New York, to Howard and Maria Stark. Howard had hired a butler named Edwin Jarvis before Tony was born. Jarvis became a good friend to Tony as he grew older. He watched over Tony throughout all of his childhood.[2] Tony's early life was often dominated by the absence of his own father who he would later describe as both 'cold' and 'calculating'. Growing up Tony had issues with his father, who Tony has said never told his son that he loved him, or even that he liked him. Since Tony was so young, Howard never was able to tell him his plans for him.[3] Tony's father would constantly talk about his friend Captain America, to inspire Tony to do great things in life, which highly annoyed young Tony Stark. When he was four years old, he made his first circuit board. When he was almost seven, he built a V8 motorbike engine. At sixteen, he won the 4th Annual M.I.T. Robot Design Award. When Tony was seventeen, he graduated MIT at the top of his class. He also met James "Rhodey" Rhodes, and they became best friends. One thing about Tony's childhood that annoyed him was his nanny that cared for him until he was 14. While he was in high school, Stark hacked into the Pentagon on a dare by some friends. In December 1991, when Tony was just 21, Howard and Maria prepared to go away for a few days and leave him alone, although his father remained skeptical about how responsible Tony would be while they were gone. Sadly, they died in a "car crash" in Long Island, leading Stark to become driven in grief for their deaths.[5] For a few months, Howard's business partner Obadiah Stane took over as interim CEO of Stark Industries until Tony officially assumed the role shortly after. Sometime later, Tony's long-serving family butler, Edwin Jarvis, also died. A few months later, Stark inherited Stark Industries, becoming the youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 Company in history. Having built himself a custom mansion, Stark made an A.I. system that helped out in the house. He named the system "Just a Rather Very Intelligent System", shortened J.A.R.V.I.S., in tribute to his late butler Edwin Jarvis whom he had often credited for helping to raise him. Eventually, James Rhodes joined the United States Air Force and became the liaison between Stark Industries and the United States Armed Forces, successfully earning Stark billions of dollars. Under Stark's leadership with the aid of Obadiah Stane, Stark Industries quickly thrived and became one of the most advanced companies in the world, creating new forms of weapons technology that seemed highly futuristic to most looking on at the weapons. It was in early 1999 when Tony Stark met a young engineer at the Stark Expo and the fling became something more. She gave him a daughter, whom he named Guinevere due to his love of King Arthur novels, and they arranged for a 'friend' of Tony's to pretend to be the mother in the public eye. Sadly, the engineer had to leave just a year after the baby was born, as she was on the run once again. Using his own great wealth and exceptional technical knowledge, Stark enjoyed the playboy lifestyle (his daughter cared for by his staff and the world's finest boarding schools) for many years until he was kidnapped by the Ten Rings. With his life on the line, Stark created an armored suit which he used to escape his captors, returning home and becoming the armored superhero known as Iron Man, battling against terrorists as well as his former business partner Obadiah Stane. Stark enjoyed the fame that came with his new secret identity and decided to share it with the world, publicly announcing himself as Iron Man. Fresh off from defeating enemies all over the world, Stark found himself dying due to his own Arc Reactor poisoning his body, all while he was challenged by the vengeful terrorist, Ivan Vanko who attempted to destroy his legacy. Due to their assistance in both these battles, Stark reluctantly agreed to serve as a consultant to Director Nick Fury's peacekeeping intelligence agency S.H.I.E.L.D. where he used his position to upgrade their technology while he began a relationship with Pepper Potts. With the world yet again being threatened, Stark joined the Avengers and helped defeat the Chitauri and Loki. Due to the battle, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, leading him to create the Iron Legion to safeguard the world and help him retire. As his daughter and heir grew older, Tony tried harder as a father to her. He took time off from the Avengers when he realized she was addicted to drugs, getting her clean and into rehab, and then helping her with the transition back at home. While she currently is in a superhero team of her own and developed powers after an incident at a lab, he does care for her dearly and considers her to be his greatest invention. She's a mini version of himself.

Skills

Master Engineer: Stark is an extremely talented and prolific engineer and robotics technician, having been able to make many complicated inventions at a young age, building his first circuit board at age four and his first engine at age six and at some point of his childhood, built Dum-E and U., his personal lab assistants, and then going on to construct numerous innovative Stark Industries weapons for the US military as an adult, most notably the Jericho, as well as leading Stark Industries to become the largest tech conglomerate in the world.[9] Even in a cave with very few resources, Stark and Ho Yinsen were able to make the Iron Man Mark I armor and the first miniature Arc Reactor.
Master Scientist: A exceptional scientific prodigy, Tony Stark is ingeniously resourceful, knowledgeable, and brilliant in many different fields of science, particularly physics, but also computer science, chemistry, and neuroscience, having graduated summa cum laude from MIT at age seventeen. Hence, he was able to attach an Arc Reactor to his chest in order to save his life, to synthesize a previously unknown element discovered by his father Howard Stark, to understand Erik Selvig's thermonuclear astrophysics notes on the Tesseract overnight.
Master Hacker: Stark is an extremely skilled hacker, as he had managed to crack the Pentagon's firewall on a dare, while still in high school. As an adult, Stark successfully used J.A.R.V.I.S. to hack into the S.H.I.E.L.D. database and learn of Phase 2.
Master Businessman: At the age of 21, Stark took over Stark Industries due to his parents' having died in a tragic car accident, thereby becoming the youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 Company in history. Since then, Stark has helped the company grow, and gain more business partners, with Stark Industries eventually becoming the largest tech conglomerate in the world[9] under his leadership. Stark is therefore extremely well-respected in the business world, able to command people's attention when he speaks on economic matters by virtue of the fact that he is savvy enough to have, over the years, built up Stark Industries into the premier weapons supplier to the US military for years.
Expert Tactician: Stark, while a somewhat brash tactician, has every so often made many split-second tactical decisions that have either saved people's lives or overpowered his adversaries, though he usually has J.A.R.V.I.S.', and later F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s assistance in this. This is notable when Stark swiftly saved Gulmira from the Ten Rings, when he defeated Iron Monger with Pepper Potts' covert help, when he had War Machine use their combined repulsor blasts to defeat Whiplash, when he personally relocated a nuclear weapon sent by the World Security Council into outer space destroying the Chitauri Command Center effectively ending their invasion,
Martial Artist: Stark is trained in unarmed combat by Phil Coulson and Happy Hogan, and has become quite formidable on his own without the Iron Man armor when the situation demands it. Hence, he was able to hold his own against War Machine, a Lieutenant Colonel Air Force Combat Pilot, during their armored brawl, despite himself being drunk at the time, and ultimately losing the fight.
Marksman: Although he usually uses his armor, in some situations Stark is able to wield handguns with ease, using them to escape from A.I.M. operatives while not having access to his armor.
Pilot: Stark demonstrates a strong understanding of aerodynamics and air crafts, allowing him to perform complex maneuvers while flying in the Iron Man armor while being chased by F-22 Raptors. His aptitude also extends to ground-based vehicles, allowing him to efficiently drive in high-speed racing competitions such as the Monaco GP.
Multilingualism: Stark speaks his native English and French, along with Spanish, Italian, Serbian, Russian, Greek, Mandarin, Japanese, and Latin. He can also speak Dari. There was a reason why he tended to hang around 3rd world countries while on the run and in hiding from the US government, generally trying to keep the Hulk away from everyone else. He cares about others, and generally will help out if asked to, which is how he ended up with the Avengers in the first place. However, his calm nature is easily combated by the angry side of his life. Banner does his best to suppress the angry side of his personality, since if he doesn't that could cause major problems, namely the Hulk. The Hulk is the side of his personality that is the great green creature that only knows a few things, anger, and smashing things.

History
Robert Bruce Banner is the son of Dr. Brian Banner, an atomic physicist, and his wife Rebecca. Although Rebecca deeply loved Bruce, who returned her affection, Brian hated their child. Brian never wanted children because of what happened to him and his sisters Susan and Elaine Banner. An alcoholic, and a very, very angry man, Brian was driven by an insane jealousy of Bruce for being an object of Rebecca's love. Further, Brian believed that his radiation work had altered his DNA and given him a mutant son. These factors led to Brian abusing Bruce physically. One of the people who helped Bruce cope with Brian's tantrums was his maternal cousin Jennifer Walters, with whom Bruce used to spend summers in the public library reading for hours, losing themselves to books. Bruce's life reached a turning point when Brian murdered Rebecca, and was placed in a mental hospital after being removed from his father's negative influence. After that, Bruce was raised by his aunt and father's sister, Susan Banner, who understood his great pain and rage over his childhood sufferings. Susan raised Bruce with love and care, as if he were her own child. Susan never wanted to deal with her brother after what he had done to Bruce and Rebecca. Bruce, grew up as a highly withdrawn, intellectually gifted youth, in fact, a child prodigy. Bruce suffered from severe trauma due to his father's abuse, and this all manifested in an imaginary friend of his whom he named the Hulk, and the Hulk stayed with him throughout his childhood, and he didn't know that he would become a big part of his adult life either. After graduating from Science High School, Bruce studied nuclear physics in Navapo, New Mexico, at Desert State University as the star student of Professor Herbert Josiah Weller. He also studied for a time at Harvard University. He later transferred to Pennsylvania State University where he briefly worked with Canadian student Walter Langkowski finding a similar interest in gamma radiation. Banner traveled around for a bit, meeting people across the country, and he eventually formed a relationship with a woman in Las Vegas, Nevada named Tracey Calrissian. She shared his love of books and the two hit it off. Banner traveled around for a bit, meeting people across the country, and he eventually formed a relationship with a woman in Las Vegas, Nevada named Tracey Calrissian. She shared his love of books, but their romance was cut short as he had other dreams and plans, and she wanted to remain in Las Vegas, as that had been her home for her entire life. So the two parted ways, but they did keep in contact with one another. Eventually, as an adult and a genius in nuclear physics, Banner wished to pursue philanthropic brands of science, but couldn't receive any financial funding for his projects, and thus in lack of other options, went to work at a United States Defense Department nuclear research facility at Desert Base, New Mexico. There Banner met General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross, the Air Force officer in command of the base, and his daughter Betty Ross. Banner and Betty eventually fell in love with each other. Banner designed and oversaw construction of the "Gamma Bomb" or "G-bomb," a nuclear weapon possessing a high gamma radiation output. Banner was present in the instrumentation bunker at the test site for the first underground test detonation of the Gamma Bomb. Observing that a civilian had breached security and entered the restricted test area, Banner told his colleague Igor Starsky to delay the countdown while he tried to escort the civilian to safety. Starsky, secretly a Soviet agent, did nothing, confident that Banner would die in the explosion, bringing the project to a halt. Reaching the civilian, a teenager named Rick Jones, Banner threw him into a protective trench. Before Banner could get himself to safety, the Gamma Bomb detonated, and intense waves of radiation reached the surface. Banner was irradiated with highly charged radioactive particles. Due to an unknown genetic factor in his body, Banner was not killed by the radiation, which instead caused him to frequently transform into the vastly powerful, green-skinned, humanoid monster. He spent the next several years on the run from the government, travelling all around the world until eventually he was recruited by SHIELD to locate the Tesseract, and this in turn led to him becoming a member of the superhero team known as the Avengers in order to stop Loki from taking over the world. After things had settled down for a bit, he got a call from someone he hadn't expected to hear from ever again, Tracey. She told him that he had a son named Lance in Las Vegas, and that she wanted him to know his father. This resulted in Banner travelling to Las Vegas and meeting his son, and eventually he took the 12 year old to live with him in New York City. Their relationship has become a bit strained over the years, but Banner hasn't stopped caring for Lance's well-being, and is glad to know that Lance won't naturally be able to become someone like the Hulk just by being blasted by radiation. He's tried to keep the Hulk in check, but he has been known to have problems still, especially since the Hulk tends to think Lance is his kid and not "Puny Banner's".

Skills

Gamma Radiation Physiology This is what let's him to become the Hulk, a creature that is easily one of the strongest beings currently living on Earth. He also has a natural resistance to any sort of radiation, which is also known to make the Hulk stronger.
Unlimited Strength: As the Hulk, he has unlimited strength. How strong he is is only limited to how angry the Hulk is, or how angry Banner let's him become.
Superhuman Stamina: The Hulk's body counteracts fatigue poisons that build up in his muscles during physical activity. In fact, the Hulk was capable to leap endlessly during an entire day without showing any signs of fatigue. In an enraged state, the Hulk is capable of exerting himself at peak physical capacity for several weeks before fatigue begins to really affect him. However, just like his vast physical strength, the Hulk's stamina does increase as he becomes angrier. In an enraged state, the Hulk was able to successfully stalemate the warrior's madness Thor, a state which temporarily enhances Thor's strength and stamina to 10 times that of his normal state in exchange for adversely affecting his intelligence.
Dynamic Durability: In addition to immense strength, the Hulk's body possesses a high degree of resistance to physical injury. The Hulk has survived tremendous amount of punishment throughout his career. The Hulk's skin is impervious to conventional blades, Adamantium and Vibranium being strictly the few known metals that can effectively pierce and penetrate his skin. The Hulk was even able to excerpt Adhesive X from his body without any injury. This invulnerability extends to the optic system since bullets, grenade shrapnel,[409] Hawkeye's arrows, and even the Valkyrie's enchanted blade Dragonfang did not penetrate nor damage it. The Hulk is capable to withstand high caliber bullets, powerful energy blasts, pressures extremes, falls from orbital heights, maximized heat without blistering, maximized cold without freezing, and also massive impacts. The Hulk has withstood several times the impact of ground zero nuclear explosions.
Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite the Hulk's high resistance to physical harm, it is possible to cause the Hulk injury. However, the Hulk is capable of regenerating damaged or destroyed areas of his entire body with much greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. In fact, the Hulk was able to systematically regenerate his internal organs and tissues in an alternate reality
Superhuman Speed: Regardless of his size, Hulk's superhumanly strong legs allow him to run at speeds that are well beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete. In fact, the Hulk's speed is so relatively high that, while tunneling underground from Subterranea to California, the Avengers feared that the Hulk could fracture the San Andreas fault line in a matter of few hours.
Reactive Adaptation: There were several events in the past where the Hulk not only faced extended periods of time in oxygen-deprived outer space without suffocating, but he also frequently spoke in these inhospitable habitats. It was theorized by Nick Fury that the Hulk could adapt to the environment of space as an inherent property of his mutation.
Telepathic Immunity: In many instances the Hulk has demonstrated great psychic resistance as a side-effect of his innate rage and the multiple personalities inside his mind.
Gamma Radiation/Energy Manipulation and Emission: Not usually a power associated with the Hulk, but there is enough evidence that Hulk possesses at least a limited ability to manipulate forms of energy, particularly gamma radiation. The Hulk's body works like a "gamma battery" by constantly creating and radiating gamma energy.
Super-Genius Intelligence: Doctor Bruce Banner is a super-genius in nuclear physics, possessing a mind so brilliant that it cannot be measured by any known intelligence test. Hence he is capable of extraordinary feats of intellect, such as to process and operate thousands of data to reconfigure an advanced and especially sophisticated computer system (intended to be used to rule the world)[463] in a matter of seconds. In effect, Banner even accomplished to infect a computer system with a virus which even Tony Stark, employing his skills, was unable to counteract.
Master Combatant: The Hulk is a skillful and capable warrior, demonstrating vast versatility and intuition in the battle.
Self-Restraint: When Banner is the Hulk he can influence the Hulk's behavior to a limited extent. However, recent facts indicate that Banner subconsciously restrains the Hulk.
Multilingualism: Banner speaks his native English and he's learned Russian in his time abroad.
