That ability makes a lot of sense for her, since the people in her lineage would need to keep secrets from the other Lunairans, so they'd need a way to keep others from prying at their minds. It's been a while since I've read it, but it's a dystopian that has a similar premise for relationships, where every marriage is decided based on compatibility that's decided by a select group of people. Every once in a while (I don't remember how often), all of the single people get together with their families (for the Lunairans, I'd imagine they would be grouped with their clans) for a banquet. At the end of the meal, there's a big TV screen that announces each paired couple by showing their names and photos side by side. When a couple is declared, the two have to stand up so they can see each other, and then after the banquet is over, they go find each other to meet. For the Lunairans, the leaders would assign someone to announce every couple in person rather than use a TV screen, and their courting would officially begin the day after the banquet. The mating ceremonies only happen one day at a time (the first starts five days after the banquet), so the length of their courtships depend on when they're assigned to be mated. It's always between 5-15 days though, because the maximum amount of Lunairans that get paired off at a single banquet is 10
