Some were enticed by the cookies she held in her hands, while others were more interested in coming inside for the interview. Lillian was happy that such upbeat people had come her way, but she also wondered what they would think—if they were accepted, that is—of the job once they realized how troubled the Southmere branch was. Would they cast her aside and abandon everything before it began? Or, would they stay and help out until the very end, bringing a bright future to the Southmere office? "Lillian," Lillian replied, offering a smile in Marie's direction. Sitting the plate of cookies down on a nearby table, the postmaster reached forward, shaking the girl's hand. "It's nice to meet you, too." She continued, before another girl had spoken, inquiring about the tray of cookies. "Hm? Oh, yes; the cookies. I already have the juice ready, so if you would all follow me." Motioning Samson to follow her, Lillian picked up the tray and led the small group down the hallway entrance and into a small waiting area with a few tables and chairs. Unlike the outside, however, it appeared that the interior had been maintained to the best of Lillian's ability, free of dust and cobwebs. Placing the tray of cookies next to the juice pitcher and some cups, Lillian reached behind herself and untied her apron, temporarily hanging it on one of the nearby coat racks for her to put away later. "So, which of you wants to go first?" Lilian asked, waiting for the brave soul eager to take the first plunge into the world of the EMS.
