Name: Deepspawn Ambyss Age: 28 Height: 5'5" Weight: 145 Race: Xotl Class: Ship's Doctor and resident Xeno-Biologist. Appearance: Ambyss's skin is a speckled and mossy greyish green color meant to help him blend in equally against the bark and leaves of massive trees or in the waters of swamps. He is a Xotl, a race of amphibious bipeds coated in a layer of slippery slime, so out of politeness to any non-Xotl aboard he generally wears thick gloves on his four-digit hands along with his labcoat and surgical scrubs even when not performing his medical duties, though the slime is not a health risk. He also has a broad tail that supports him when walking upright. Skills: Highly skilled surgeon and doctor in multiple fields. Respected authority on Xeno-biology. Has combat skills beyond the somewhat mandatory level for any Xotl raised on Caudela having served as a combat medic against an enemy that made a point of targeting doctors, but he is typically a peaceful being by choice. Personality: Ambyss faces each day with cheerful enthusiasm, having long ago decided that just in case that particular day might be his last, he should spend it being happy and polite as possible. His cheerfulness also makes sense when taken in-context with the rest of his life, seeing as he spent the first twenty years or so of it on constantly hostile Caudela and at least some of that time in the middle of a low-level war. He's dedicated to helping people as much as possible and tries his best to stick to his sense of medical ethics. History/Biography: Ambyss grew up as a member of the Deepspawn Tribe of Caudela. He always admired and respected doctors and worked as hard as he could to become one, succeeding at obtaining a Xotl medical license at an age that would be considered rather young for a human. This was thanks in no small part to a staggering amount of hands on experience. Ever since the Xotl Council of Eldest had officially joined the wider spacefaring community and the Alliance of Peace, hostilities with the religious fundamentalist Loa tribes had occasionally flared up into short but intensely deadly brushfire wars, and one of the biggest and most organized insurrections occurred while Ambyss was still in training. Being located in a region of marshes and swamps dividing the jungles of the Loa from the rest of the Xotl, Deepspawn's territories became one of the first and hardest hit by the Loa. In order to deal as much damage as possible, they started their attacks by assassinating as many of Tribe Deepspawn's doctors and medical professionals as possible. Though not yet a fully licensed doctor, Ambyss found himself struggling to keep others alive in the middle of a war zone where at least half of the combatants actively wanted him dead and could kill him with a touch. Nevertheless he found himself surviving if not always in as peaceful a way as he'd like, and moreover gaining a reputation as a reliable doctor in the opinion of Loa and non-Loa alike. By the time conflict between the Loa and his own people had died down enough to be labelled 'peace' he was judged to have more than earned his credentials. By then though he was sick of his own planet's seemingly pointless and never-ending hostilities and longed to travel the stars to get away from both. Once he was sterilized and cleared to travel, he spent the next six years studying other alien species as well as furthering his own medical knowledge with the same grim determination that he applied to treating patients on the battlefield. Eventually he became as good at the understanding the biology of various aliens as he was at understanding those of his Xotl patients. Not quite knowing what else to do with himself he put his knowledge to good use as a traveling doctor treating those in need from one planet to the next, at first never staying too long in any one place. Eventually though, Ambyss wound up opening a free clinic on Earth in the very worst slums of DC, providing medical services to those who couldn't normally afford any as well as serving the ever-expanding number of species that had begun pouring into the city as its' prominence as an interstellar hub for the Alliance grew. Despite many difficulties, Ambyss's little clinic is still operating after over a year or so, though the part of him that's been constantly driven to learn is beginning to get restless.
