Often times, things don't go as planned for the GM. I was looking through my notes and found this scene that I had written three months ago (obviously, things didn't turn out like this). Thought you guys might enjoy it as a What if Novikova Had Gotten Trapped Instead? read.

"Get away from him, that's a--!" Novikova screamed, but it was too late. The Tinkerer's gun let out a strangely purple-green blast, striking Novikova in the chest. She stumbled backwards, about to ram into the wall when she started to shrink. One second, she was at her full height - the next, only three feet tall - then only a few inches - and so she continued to shrink at a rapidly increasing rate, until there was no trace left of her. She had gone subatomic.

It was as cold and indifferent as it was beautiful and serene. A cascade of colors surrounded her, breaking into infinite patterns of increasing complexity. Her breath clouded slightly in front of her face, the lenses of her glasses misting as she took them off. Her hand slipped and the glasses drifted away from her for a moment, as Dominika Feliksovna Novikova, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., continued to shrink. For some, this would have been the moment to pray - to concentrate on thoughts of loved ones in preparation for the end. Or perhaps to marvel at the mysteries of the universe. "This is Agent Dominika Feliksovna Novikova, Sci-Tech Class of 2020," Novikova said, her voice breaking slightly. "...I don't know if this transmission will get through...I don't think it will, but..." The quantum realm existed outside of time and space. Even if a signal got out, when and where would that be? Eons later? Decades if she was lucky? "...If anyone ever does hear me, I am in the quantum realm. I calculate my odds of survival to be 57% for the moment...with a steady exponential decay the longer I am here." The kaleidoscope surrounding her seemed to shatter, as she fell into what felt like a void. There was utter nothingness and the chill set into her bones. She wasn't in a suit or anything that would protect her - her head only had her silver pigtails to provide warmth. "The quantum realm initially was like...colors. Endless colors, everywhere - like falling through a prism. But now...it's not really dark, that's not right. It's more just nothingness." Would her team try to go after her? Novikova couldn't help but consider it. Maria would, she had no doubt of it - as would Sparky. She wasn't too certain about the others. Tinley would leave her - since that would be the logical call to make. She wasn't dead, but she might as well be. No one ever returned from the quantum realm. To attempt to do otherwise would just be a waste of S.H.I.E.L.D. resources and those remaining of the Phase Three program. "Don't come after me...I don't want anyone else to get trapped here in a rescue attempt," she added. Her fingers felt like ice as she kept a grip on the communicator she had wrapped around her ear. She didn't want to risk losing it. She took a shuddering breath, continuing to fall yet she was quickly losing all awareness of time and space. It was hallucinogenic and her eyes threatened to close. Instead, by a stroke of fate, she removed her glasses and threw them away. The hallucinogenic mess turned into bursts of clarity and she found herself able to focus, her primary mutation kicking in to show its true power. "Dimensional energy perception," she whispered to herself. It was then that she noticed something else and it took her breath away. It looked almost exactly like her - yet it was a pale blue, broken up by bursts of blood red. "...I-I'm not alone...Th-there's something in here with me!" She was then nowhere in sight, her communicator and glasses adrift in the quantum void, continuing to shrink.

"Guys, what's happening down there? We just lost Novikova's signal." Raynor pulled Lyting from his belt, flinging it before the Tinkerer could get another shot off. In the fight between a nerd inexperienced with the weapons he built and a decades old warrior, it was an easy outcome to predict. The knife hit the Tinkerer in the chest, a sweet bit of poetic justice, as he fell to the ground, the weapon smashing on impact with the ground. "Agent Novikova is down," Raynor said, taking a breath. "Do we need med evac?" "There's nothing to evac, Kennedy...She's gone."
