As the name would suggest, the Great Dark is the manifestation of the concept of darkness in the real, physical world. Pitch black inside and outside, the Great Dark surrounds every other sphere, filling in the gaps between them, just like how darkness creeps up where there is no light. Most light sources, barring light from divine sources and/or light coming through from other Spheres, are absorbed by the sphere's borders. Liquid-like and easy to traverse, these borders are what separates the Great Dark from the rest of the universe. Should one enter or leave the sphere by passing through the borders, a disturbance in the fabric of the sphere is created, manifesting in the form of a series of ripples that permeate throughout its perimeter. Concerning the interior of the sphere, there is a definite up, down, left and right, but no sense of gravity. This effectively means the only thing stopping someone from travelling to anywhere inside the Great Dark is their force of will, as the sphere's magic reacts to the thoughts of the person and "pushes" them towards their desired direction. Littered inside the sphere are floating islands of different shapes and sizes. Crystalized from the very essence of the Great Dark, these landmasses house all sorts of ethereal flora and fauna that take the darkness as their permanent home. Among these islands, however, is one that surpasses all the others in all regards. This one is where the Mistress of the Night has made her home. Situated at the top of the island's highest peak is Melantha's crowning jewel, her personal palace and abode, a gigantic ebony tower. Made from the same kind of material as the land that surrounds it, the tower naturally acts as the focal point of the sphere's energies. No, true darkness is a state of being. Cold and unforgiving, constricting everything and anything that it envelops. The darkness of nothingness can elicit fearfulness to even the bravest and most courageous beings, but it can also protect, providing relief from the endless woes of existence. One can run, and one can hide, but in the end, one cannot evade the darkness. Nevertheless, that does not mean that she has no desires or needs. All the spirits invited by the Architect and moulded into gods have their individual goals to fulfil in the grand scheme of things, and Melantha's goal is very simple; spread darkness to everything and anything that she possibly can. A very simple calling, but one that can be approached in a myriad of ways. Now, an outsider might think why one would enjoy such a task, and to this Melantha says why not? Why does one enjoy watching the sun rise from below the horizon, or enjoy eating a good meal by the fire with their friends and family for company? It's exactly because it brings them happiness and warmth when doing these activities. Melantha is the same in this regard. Considering everything, Melantha thoroughly enjoys the work assigned to her and as such will not tolerate anyone that gets between her and her fun.
