His dark skin, white clothing and blue-rimmed glasses allow him to stand out among his peers, although not to an extravagant degree. He likes to maintain the look of a professional, after all. While his eyesight is mostly adequate without his glasses, anything at an extremely close range proves to be difficult for Raphel to make out due to blurriness, and he'd have to squint in order to read fine print, which can strain his eyes. Raphel always keeps a cloth in a pocket that is on the inside of his shirt, so that he can clean his glasses whenever he might need to.

[sub]Biography:[/sub]
Born in Ethiopia. Raised (primarily) in Oxford. Raphel Hagos Mekuria is a well-established, highly educated young man who was taken in by a noble young couple. He doesn't remember much about his original birth parents and, seeing as neither had the chance to truly involve themselves in his life before their untimely demise, he can only speculate what kind of people they might have been at best. However, he holds a deep gratitude for the couple who'd raised him as their own child, as he wouldn't have got this far without them. Raphel is a multilingual, meaning he can speak a myriad of languages with little to no effort, albeit with varying levels of competence. He prefers to speak French and Italian since he likes the sound of them the most, but he finds himself speaking in Japanese most of the time, which is unsurprising given the area in which he lives. Raphel seems to have a natural talent for getting around any language barrier that may or may not be present. He'd be more concerned about ensuring people comprehend the points that he tries to make. In battle, Raphel will typically take the initial few moments to study his enemies. He does not like to go in "guns blazing", so to speak, especially without knowing there's a weakness that he can even try to exploit. He may even treat the whole battlefield like one big game of chess, where the least thought out move could very well be the last that one gets to make before seeing their defeat. That said, Raphel holds a great deal of confidence in his strategies, and will always think several steps ahead before making his move. The lives of his teammates, as well as his own and all that he cares about, may ultimately come down to whether he can see his endgame through.

Combat Information

[sub]Class:[/sub]
Gunner
[sub]Armament:[/sub]
The Voice of Reason: A powerful marksman rifle that has two modes to it: Assault Mode, and Sniper Mode. It automatically shifts between these two modes depending on what exactly the user is shooting at and how close or far away it is. It doesn't have a scope, or even iron sights in the conventional sense, but when its user puts his or her finger on the trigger, it projects a holographic display near the bottom half of the eye, which shows exactly where the weapon is being aimed. In Sniper Mode, The Voice of Reason will fire a highly intense laser that can inflict severe damage; potentially enough to fell even the sturdiest of enemies if aimed at exactly the right spot. The user can control how much the holographic display zooms in and out by expending a small amount of their psychic energy. This is particularly useful for picking off enemies that are retreating, or dealing with those whose weak spots are tricky to line up for. If a shot has been fired in Sniper Mode, it will take at least 10 seconds before The Voice of Reason will be ready to use again, as it will need that much time to charge back up. In Assault Mode, The Voice of Reason can fire radioactive pulses of red light in a volley. These pulses don't inflict as much damage at a time, but it makes up for it with a good rate of fire, and there is no noticeable charge-up delay between shots. As such, this mode is more practical than the Sniper Mode when battling enemies at mid- to close-range. The Assault Mode is also ideal for scouting out the potential weaknesses of unfamiliar enemies, whereas the Sniper Mode is more for dealing a big, decisive blow.
[sub]Psychic Drive:[/sub]
Psionic Lockdown: Raphel's Psychic Drive allows him to overwhelm a single enemy with psychic energy, preventing it from moving a muscle and effectively paralyzing it on the spot. It has a maximum range of 100 meters, and requires much of Raphel's concentration in order to keep the stricken enemy still. The stronger the enemy is from a physical standpoint, the harder of a time he'll have containing it. It should be noted that, while Raphel can still move while using his Psychic Drive against an enemy, any movement that he does make will weaken his hold on the stricken, and it can break in its entirety if he tries to move too fast. Raphel will primarily use his Psychic Drive in order to grant himself a clean shot at the chosen enemy's weak point. However, there are also a number of selfless applications for the Psychic Drive in question; for example, he can use it in a pinch to save the life of an injured ally, as well as enable a friendly Striker to close in on the stricken enemy without fear of retaliation, or ease the burden of his team should a duo of enemies prove too difficult to handle together. He could even potentially slow down an entire wave of enemies by using his Psychic Drive against an enemy that is in the path of a choke point. However, Raphel's Psychic Drive will take its toll if it's applied one too many times in battle, usually n the form of a splitting headache. As such, he'll have to pick the moments that he uses it very carefully.

Miscellaneous Information

[sub]Main Theme Song:[/sub]
Nemesis, by Five Finger Death Punch
[sub]Battle Theme Song:[/sub]
NieR Automata OST: End of the Unknown, as remixed by Little V Mills
[sub]Ideal Voice Actors:[/sub]
J. It was difficult to stay awake during such a late hour, but there was a sense of tranquility about so few things happening around that Raphel found peaceful. No doubt it wouldn't last long, as his childhood friend, Eira Anderson, came over with two cups of coffee and took one of the seats that was right next to him. "Here ya go," Eira extended one hand as she said this, giving one of the cups to Raphel, "Hopefully this'll keep us awake," "Well, it wouldn't sell if it didn't," Raphel stated as a matter of fact, as he took a sip of the coffee that was given to him. Black, just the way he liked it. As he continued his occasional sips of his coffee, his thoughts began to trail off into the far yonder. "I wonder what life would've been like... before 'they' invaded, that is," he mused aloud. "'They'? You mean those things that attacked us during the Second Genesis?" Eira asked. "Precisely," Raphel turned to answer Eira, before returning to a thinking pose that he had prior, "There's still much that we don't know about them. What they want. How far they're willing to go. And more importantly, why they chose Earth over all everywhere else in the entire galaxy. Could they have found this planet purely by chance, of all things?" Unsurprisingly, the next few minutes were quite. It was evident that Eira had no idea how to answer Raphel's question at the end there, as it was one but many of the thought-provoking ones that would prove difficult to answer correctly. The silence in the area was broken only by a PA system that had just sprang to life. "All passengers flying from Oxford to Neo Kyoto on Flight D353, please begin boarding. I repeat, all passengers on Flight D353 from Oxford to Neo Kyoto may begin boarding." With that, Raphel rose from his seat, and placed his empty coffee cup in the trash. He said his goodbye and got himself in the queue to board his flight, while Eira watched on with a tear in her eye and a smile on her face. Raphel enjoyed his time living in Oxford, but his journey was just beginning...
