His favorite place is his bedroom, his first and only girlfriend was sleep, and a few other introvert cliches that he'd probably introduce himself with. Of course this isn't exactly the true story. Derrick's father is just as much of a charmer as the rest, hell, he managed to bed Aphrodite at one point depending on who you ask. Derrick is socially competent despite his insistence to the contrary, though by no means at his father's level. Derrick has some mental hang-ups, just a few. The most notable is an inferiority complex that has made him into a slothful and impulse-driven wreck, as he believes that even his best effort would be second at best, so why try? He's smart, but you wouldn't notice as he never puts his intelligence to any use outside of planning his way out of his responsibilities. Contradictory to this is his fear of normalcy. Derrick's worst nightmare is to go through life without amounting to anything, he wants desperately to be important, but is unwilling to put in any effort to get there. When it comes to inter-personal relationships, Derrick is a very charitable person, to an overbearing extent. When he befriends someone, he will spend money, time, whatever he needs to in order to ensure that said friend is happy, often to his own detriment. His overbearing personality can drive potential friends away, further contributing to his inferiority complex. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. [sub]History[/sub]
Louise Bisset was a married woman of twenty-two, happy with her life, lacking in excitement though it was. Her husband was a man by the name of Harry Austin, a businessman with a more than substantial income. There was however, something remarkable about that tired looking man that she met on a jog. A short romance began on the side, and Louise quickly discovered the godly nature of her lover. Upon giving birth to a child who left the womb with a feather coming out of each ankle, Mister Austin knew what had happened. Derrick grew up in a single parent household, knowing of his godly heritage, but never truly comprehending how special it made him. He knew his father was a very important and very busy man, but whenever they met it was man and boy, not boy and god. Derrick failed to excel in school or really in anything at all outside sports, which he proved exceptional at, much to his father's joy. On his thirteenth birthday, his father revealed his true nature, in a moment that Derrick would remember for the rest of his life. He'd known for a while that he had abilities no-one else had, but he'd never known that it came from half-godhood. His father told him how sorry he was for hiding the truth and offered him an egg as a gift. This egg contained two things, his pet-turned brother Ajax, and a reference, which he was instructed to offer to the Dean of Admissions at Olympus Academy. When he did so, the man smiled and guaranteed him a place among its godly students. The next three years were a flash of pointlessness and nothing, but eventually the day came when he had to leave his mother to settle into the academy. Meeting with his father, Derrick offered his mother one last embrace, before darting off into the horizon, chasing after his father and with his Rooster-shaped companion in tow. In the three years he's been at Olympus, Derrick has had a miserable time. His grades are very poor, and he fails to understand the purpose of what he is learning. His insular nature has also hurt his experience, and he has begun to consider dropping out, perhaps accepting mediocrity like he had always feared.

"Everyone's a little weird around that age, but that kid seems to want to be weird." — Hermes
[sub]Godly Parent[/sub]
Hermes, God of Messengers, Trade, Thieves, Sports, and Guide to the Underworld.
[sub]Relationship With Godly Parent[/sub]
Derrick and Hermes rarely meet, not for a lack of trying. It's just that being the messenger of the gods leaves little time in a schedule for conjugal visits. When they do meet, they get along well enough, Derrick admires Hermes for setting a standard that Derrick believes he could never achieve, while Hermes drives his son to actually try. They enjoy playing sports together and going for runs, though Derrick is always left in the dust by his lightning-quick father.
[sub]Demigod Abilities[/sub]

Animal Companion: A gift from his father at a young age as an apology for his past absence and current absence, Derrick owns a rooster named Ajax. Ajax is often seen by Derrick as more a brother than a pet, mostly due to his human-level intelligence and personality, outgoing where Derrick is shy. Ajax is bound to Derrick, if he dies, so too does Derrick and vice versa. He is capable of matching Derrick in running speed and stamina, and is a skilled messenger.
Free Passage: Just like his father, Derrick is capable of freely entering and exiting the underworld. Hades needs messengers too, you see.
Stamina: Even among demigods, Derrick's stamina is exceptional, he can run marathon lengths with less than significant effort, but he will tire eventually, and combined with his already enhanced speed, well, it's difficult to catch Derrick when he gets going.
Messenger's Mark: Derrick can mark an object with an image of a tortoise. Any object carrying this mark can be summoned to his hand at his convenience.
[sub]Donald Glover | #F08080[/sub]
Open to editing this if some of the more "out-there" elements are too much. :)
