Alexei pushed himself up on his elbows, breathing lightly but hastily to try and keep his lungs from moving too much. He gingerly touched the area where he hurt the most, a sour ache that started in his side and spread all the way up his leg and down his arm. The touch sent of tremor of agony through his whole body and he pulled away. That was at least a broken rib. He body felt like the last time his squad mates had given him a soap party, though whether that was from the tumble as he'd landed or the force of that blinding light he didn't know. He looked back over toward where he'd been thrown from, his eyes tracing the skid mark he'd left in the grass. All along it were the pages of his notebook, torn to shreads as it had scraped the earth. The girl...the boy?....he couldn't think straight....that person was still standing over a pile of rubble. He slipped forward, head laying in the dirt. That was fine, that was fine, that was fine. That was okay. But what had that light been? What had the rat man been talking about, someone destroying the school? What was with today? He rolled over onto his back, hand pointed at the air. It started to spark. "Please, please, please, just something useful. Useful. Useful." He repeated it like a mantra, trying to exert some control, some intent on randomness and chaos through pure willpower. The energy broke, there was another blinding flash. When it was over, Alexei could no longer see his arm. He lifted he his head slowly, just to confirm that, yes, he could also no longer see his toes. Or his legs. Or his torso. The morning light shown down into the grass as though he wasn't even there. (Result 1230: caster is invisible in daylight but illuminated in darkness.)
