They aren't. I don't really know anything about Marvel or DC (since I'm not a huge fan of them), but all universes exist within MR's multiverse framework. So the multiverse of Marvel and DC would fit into what would be called a tightly-bound cluster. If several universes are heavily connected and in close proximity, they're considered a cluster. If they rely on each other to exit (as I'm presuming Marvel and DC do), they'd be considered tightly-bound.
