You’ve awaken in a small cave, illuminated faintly by strange crystals embedded into the walls and ceiling. You are not alone; among the others in this cave are strange looking creatures. As you try to gain your baring you notice something off about yourself; you are not longer human. Your features are different, you lack the attire you had worn before you blacked out. You don’t quite know what’s going on but you do understand one thing: You have become a Pokémon.
Welcome to this Pokémon Isekai. I honestly can’t say I’ve really put much thought into this RP but as with all things I tend to do better once the ball gets rolling. So without further adieu let’s cover a few things. Yes you were indeed human from a world where Pokémon did not physically exist, though your character may choose to know about them in some way via video games or whatever. The concept of an Isekai is also probably not unknown to you, so feel free to use either knowledge as you see fit. That being said, This world is not 1-to-1 like it is in the games, anime, or the media per say. While it’s very similar to the mystery dungeon series (you play as Pokémon and the society is largely populated by Pokémon) don’t bother trying to correct me if something appears extremely bizarre if not impossible. That doesn’t mean you get to break all the rules established, just that the rules you know may not be the rules in which this world runs upon. While most Isekai tend to go for darker interpretations of being dropped into a video game world or at least have the droppers use their somehow vast knowledge of science and such to jump start technological revolutions, this one will ideally be somewhat more lighthearted with slightly more cartoony physics, though that doesn’t mean there won’t be some bleak themes and sudden bursts of realism every now and again. Lastly, and because I know it will eventually come up, death is a thing in this verse. Pokémon, much like regular animals, do prey upon each other and that typically means killing and eating them. I won’t spoil too much but just know if you’re a bug Pokémon walking through a birds nest, don’t be surprised if you don’t just faint. Now onto the rules. As always my word is Law. I carry the final say, even if I happen to be wrong. I’m always willing to discuss but if you can’t agree with me than you may wish to find greener pastures. Respect and have some consideration for your fellow RPers, but of course this is a two-way street. Don’t insult, harass, or otherwise attack or bully someone just because you don’t agree with their behavior. At the same time however do understand that if your playstyle or attitude is causing problems, you’re probably the problem. Keep me informed if for some reason you can’t post for an extended period of time, more so if you’re involved in a right high pace activity like fighting or collaborating with other PC’s. If needed we will move on without you, with all the consequence that would imply. IC fighting will be inevitable in a Pokémon world, but as rule 2 states don’t fight OoC. I will have a separate section for how fighting, as well as stats and such, will be handled in a section below. Obviously no metagaming, and for those who’ll enter this world with some Pokémon knowledge, this is especially important. As I mentioned before how this verse works is not exactly how things are in the games or show, and how they’re different you’ll need to find out IC. You will all start at the lowest evolution of your given Pokémon line. Obviously no legendaries, and pseudo legendaries will be on a case-by-case basis. That is to say if I feel like I can trust you to play responsible I’ll let you. I’m okay if you want to start as a fossil Pokémon. If your choose of Pokémon has no evolutionary lines, I will allow depending on which you choose. If you want to be say, a ditto, go for it. If you want to be a Kangaskhan you’ll probably be the baby Kangaskhan. If you want to be something like a scyther, huwalucha, or generally any other Pokémon without an evolutionary line that typically looks full grown out of an egg, again these things will be on a case-by-case. One character per player for now. I may allow additional characters if I feel it won’t disrupt the game too much. More rules to be added as I see fit, keep abreast in the OoC got whenever I do an update.
Poké Profile This is your character sheet, albeit in more ways than just one. Keeping somewhat like the games for the sake of simplicity, there are two Poké Profiles I want you to keep up with: You Portfolio and your Adventuring Log. Your Portfolio is your more traditional character sheet with your history, appearance, and so forth. Your Adventuring Log I want you to keep in each of your Ic post. Is much smaller but keeps important information such as your health, inventory, moves, status, and so forth. Examples are below.
Name: Self explanatory. It is unusual in this verse for Pokémon to simply be referred to by their species name, though naming conventions vary on location and culture. Species: The starter form of your evolutionary line. As you grow stronger and evolve you may include your specific new evolution along with your species line. For example if you want to be a Pikachu you start as a Pichu, and when you evolve you’ll write Pichu (Pikachu) here. If you choose to be a Pokémon that has no evolutionary lines, you’ll simply just write their names down as such. Age: this is your character’s actual age. Of course your Pokémon age is about as close to Infant or at least childlike, but that has little bearing on your real age. Appearance: a picture or sufficiently long enough description will suffice. Also point out any particular traits or physical quirks that might single you out. Shiny Pokémon is also possible though what the implication of being one shall remain to be seen. History: Your life prior to arriving to this strange world. Your knowledge will likely be more important than your abilities since it’ll be Incredibly difficult for your physical abilities to carry over into your new Pokémon form, even if they are vaguely humanoid. You don’t necessarily need to have died to come to this world, but you certainly weren’t conscious when you did. Maybe you fell asleep or something.

Moves: What you know as a Pokémon in terms of fighting. Starting out your moves will be very basic and typically one of the following: Pound, Scratch, or Tackle. Depending on your species you might not even have that, or at least have a different attack. As you continue on through the RP you may learn new moves, some easier to figure out than others. Health: The state of your being. I won’t use numbers here, just a general description such as “Full Health”, “Slightly Injured”, “Heavily Wounded”, and of course “Knocked Out”. Do keep track of specific injuries you might’ve taken too. You might be slightly injured but you still got hit in leg, and that might end up causing complications. Status: This is for whenever you’re afflicted with the various stays alignments such as Poison or Confused, but this will also include whenever you benefiting or suffering from some sort of stat change. Things like attack down or defense up. Also includes other status such as if you have a Substitute up, or you’re underground thanks to a Dig Attack. Ability: Your Pokémon specific ability. You only have one, and it has to be one that your Pokémon could actually have (reference Bulbapedia to find that out) but I will allow you to choose Hidden Abilities if you want. Inventory: What items you have in your possession and what you have equipped. You can only ever benefit from one equipped item at any given time, with you’re newest one overriding whatever you had equipped previously. Also include if you have any means to carry your stuff; I can accept maybe tying a few berries around your waist, but ain’t no way you could carry twenty berries, a butt load of mushrooms, and the kitchen’s sink when you’re just one Pokémon. Some exceptions may apply. Quest: Just a small summary of what you're trying to do or accomplish. You could just leave this blank, but I find it helps keep players occupied if they have something to do, or at least make them look for something to do.

Name: Bob Pearson. Species: Bidoof Age: 32 Appearance: Looks like a regular bidoof but with a mullet. History: Bob was a general contractor for a motor company. He mostly just operated a forklift to carry stuff around and occasionally did things with cement. He isn't married but he has been trying to date a couple of women, so far his prospects seem okay. He's a fairly chill person and likes to go swimming. He's always wanted a boat to go fishing in the ocean. One day after a hard day of work he and his friends go out for beer and he passes out after his 18th mug and after eating two dozen doughnuts.

Moves: Tackle Growl Health: Full Health, but could really go for another doughnut. Status: Hungry Ability: Moody Inventory: A chewy stick Quest: Find doughnuts.

Combat and Stats Pokémon being a series based around monsters fighting, it’s inevitable that you’re going to fight and generally you’ll want to be the very best like no one ever was. And to do my best to alleviate the inevitable conflicts about fighting here’s how things will work. First I’ll establish that yeah, generally speaking the power and accuracy of certain attacks will be based off the game in that an attack with 100 accuracy will generally always hit unless the target has an evasion boost or the attacker as an accuracy penalty. To that end if between two players I will allow them to determine out of their own will if an attack will hit or miss with factors like buffs/debuffs and their own personal decisions. If you want me to arbitrate a battle I will do so taking into consideration all stays at play, any mitigating circumstances, and possibly a dice roller. But the short of it is, if there isn’t any evasion buffs/accuracy debuffs, an attack with 100 accuracy will always hit. Anything less and the chances of it missing will increase proportionally to the attacks accuracy.
Say we got a fight between a poochyena and a geodude. Geodudes, being a generally slow type of pokemon, will go after a poochyena, who are typically quicker even as a prevolution. The Poochyena goes for a Bite attack; as it's a dark type attack and Poochyena is a dark pokemon, this attack is fairly strong for a poochyena. Of course a geodude's defense is pretty good too, so while the poochyena's bite is certainly stronger than usual it doesn't do much against a geodude. That's the end of Poochyena's turn. Then Geodude goes to use a rock throw attack. Geodude is a rock type and rock throw is a rock type move, so this will hurt. Rock Throw doesn't have 100 accuracy, but 90, so there's a 10% chance of missing. Between the PC's they can decide if the attack will hit or miss, but if left to the GM's discretion a 100 sided dice will be rolled. If the results are 91-100, the attack misses. Anything else is a hit. I rolled a 32 so the attack hits, and it hurts the poochyena. Geodude's turn is done. Back to Poochyena. Looks like regular attacks might not work, so he uses Sand Attack, a status move. It also has 100% accuracy so it will hit automatically and decrease Geodude's accuracy by a single stage, which for the purpose of this RP is equal to 10%. So now all of Geodude's attack has at least a 10% chance of missing, including whatever other accuracy penalties he might already have. Poochyena's turn is done and it's back to Geodude. Geodude does another rock throw. His accuracy goes from 90 to 80 now, so 81-100 will become a miss. But he ends up getting a 21, so he still hits. Poochyena is looking in bad shape now and it's his turn. Poochyena needs to improve his chances of surviving the next hit, and so he uses double-team to increase his evasion. Unlike decreasing accuracy, any hits towards poochyena has a chance for missing even for pokemon who don't have any accuracy debuffs. Additionally this increase in evasion works differently for the dice roller: when your evasion is increase when you roll anything from a 1-10, it becomes a miss. So now if Geodude uses rock throw he'll miss if the number is between 81-100 or 1-10. Also if you're wondering why it's 1-10 and not 0-10, that's because you can't roll a 0 on the die you dummy. Geodude's turn. Feeling like he's going to win, Geodude throws another rock. He's pretty certain which one of the fake poochyena is the real one so he throws his rock, but misses. Not much he could do about it so he ends his turn there. Back to poochyena. The poochyena knows that he can't win. he's too hurt and none of his attacks will do enough damage. So he has to run away. When running away from a fight it's a contest of speed and if the enemy wants to chase you. Obviously if your enemy is faster he can cut off your escape and you've wasted your turn. But if you're faster, you'll have a greater chance of getting away. No math for this one, it'll just boil down to how well you can narrate your escape. But oh! Poochyena's ability, Run Away, allows him to escape with much more ease! Certain abilities will allow greater chances, if not simply an automatic success, for certain things. Poochyena lives to fight another day. This is a simple guide for one-on-one combat between two pokemon. Obviously things get more complex if you use different pokemon or introduce different environmental things to take account of, such as high elevation, cover, or even the weather. Such things will be covered over time as the RP progresses.
Stats will be based off your Pokémon species as well as your own IC efforts at training. And for those of you who think that you could somehow put out 300% more effort than everyone else and try to train every stat, congratulations you have Flat average stat growth. In this instance trying to do more will simply result in doing less than everything so it all evens up. Being a Jack of Stats isn’t a bad deal but don’t expect to become a master of all. And to that end pick your training carefully as there’s no way to reverse it reallocate your stats after the fact. Additionally don’t expect your growth to be immediately noticeable; spending all night fighting geodudes won’t make you a defense king in one day.
