Dan had been stunned at his loss, the battle shouldn't have gone that way, Twiggy shouldn't have been hurt. But he was. Now, all Dan could do was wait to see what would happen.
"I should've listened to you Margo." He whispered as a man came out of the forest.
"Wait, that's!" He said aloud as he stared down his Uncle. "So this is where you've been." He muttered.

Dan knew this cue, in fact Richard had thought him this before disappearing from the family for previously unknown reasons. He didn't have time to tell his friends before the gas was released, Dan putting his face to the ground and covering it with whatever could stop the Smog from getting into his nose. This prevented him from getting knocked out long enough for the smog to clear, and for them to get sent to the hospital.

Dan wasn't able to sleep much, not after what happened, especially not after this revelation as to where Richard had been.

After a quick talk with his Mother and Sister, he went to the lobby to check himself out. His friends still knocked out, at least he thought that until he heard a feint call of his name. 

Popping his head back in the room seeing if Indy was finally awake.
"Hey. How are you feeling? You got a nose full of that gas. Sorry for dragging you into it. We should've just called the police and let them go. Margo's Pokémon got beat up bad and its my fault. I'll apologize when she's awake." He said.
"But, I'm gonna talk to Dad later. The leader of those thieves it was Uncle Richard. You never met him cause he disappeared pretty early on but its no coincidence. Both of them being in an old, disbanded group." He said. as a burse brushed by him to check Indy's BPI.
