I like the first idea with her having been a popular girl who used to bully him. Maybe her friends are starting to turn on her at this point and now she knows what he must have felt like. Now she is learning to become a better person to those around her through his eyes? :) She would be more open about how others make her feel so I think they would be a nice contrast to each other. And teasing him would be a definite yes!
