She speaks in an airy manner that seems to betray a lack of commitment or care in regards to whatever it is she's talking about; for better or for worse, she wears a perpetual poised mask in the presence of others. This is not to say that she is not emotive, but rather her calm facade gives her a feeling of control and, consequentially, comfort when she is forced to be around unfamiliar faces. Although she will follow orders, it is not something that she does without question, and she is not shy with voicing any reservations that she may have about a plan. Aoide believes that her status as a branded leads her to be more morally aware of the shades of gray that may be present in a situation; in actuality, her inability (or lack of desire) to form meaningful connections with others simply leads her to question everything she is told or asked to do--she tends to scrutinize even the smallest of requests when it comes from someone she harbours no particular affection for. Sometimes she'll determine on her own grounds that the orders given are reasonable and will carry them through without issue, but other times she'll put up a fight. For the few who she does come to trust, such as her father and brother, Aoide reveals herself to be a much more relaxed individual than initially portrayed. She is much lighter, both in regards to her general disposition as well as with her beliefs or desires. She is much more willing to give leeway to those whom she has forged some sort of genuine friendship with than anyone else, even if that "anyone else" happens to be an experienced and respected individual of some sort. Put simply, Aoide would much rather lend her support to a common street rat who has befriended her over even the mightiest of kings, even if said king is a reasonable authority figure to begin with. This bias can prove to be both helpful and detrimental depending on the situation in question. ★ ★ ★ History: Aoide has no illusions about her bloodline; she is fully aware that she is a distant descendant of Dheginsea, one of Ashera's fabled "Three Heroes". That being said, this fact has had little bearing on how she lives her life as a whole. Although she recognizes that she is some sort of relative to Goldoa's current reigning King, she has little interest in reconnecting with her distant kin. As it is, Aoide hails from a branch of the family that had purposefully distanced themselves from those in Goldoa. One of Aoide's ancestors, a young woman named Callia, had grown weary of the discrimination that she faced for being one of the branded--something that she had not chosen of her own free will, but a fate that she had simply been born into. She grew angry at the unfair hand that she had been dealt and consequentially decided that she would not allow her own children or descendants to suffer the same judgement that she had. As a result, she chose to seek out ways to "purge" the laguz blood from those who came after her. Ultimately, she came to the conclusion that the only logical way of doing so would be to breed it out. While the idea would work in theory, in practice, even moving out of Goldoa and surrounding oneself with beorc would not guarantee that those that came after Callia would conform to her plans. Between the fact that the dragon laguz blood in their veins was not easily diluted and the fact that not every descendant that followed married a pure-blooded beorc, it proved to be a difficult--if not nigh impossible--task to "cleanse" their lineage as Callia had desired. However, while this plan has ultimately ended in failure, it did result in this branch of the family growing distant from its roots. Aoide has been fortunate enough to to be born with her brand on her inner wrist, making it quite easy for her to hide said mark from the public eye. Because of this, Aoide has blessed with a more fortunate life than what can be said for many other branded. She lived alongside her father and older brother for a period of time in Crimea, but whereas their interests lay in blacksmithing and swords, she had become drawn to the magical arts when an incident had revealed that she had some latent talent hidden within. When a chance encounter with a group of passing mercenaries resulted in an invitation to travel along, she was quick to accept at the prospect of growing more proficient with her magic. While she has been traveling with this same group for the past year, Aoide has yet to forge any notable bonds with her companions. As she sees it, she is never meant to stay in one place or with one group for very long--her slowed aging prevents it, assuming that she wants to keep her status as a branded under wraps. While this is but a temporary arrangement for her, she's been trying to learn all that she can while she is under their guidance.
