I originally wasn't going to weigh in, but part of the idea behind the Blaster/Saber is it's designed for a time with Jedi in hiding.

Yes, but it's a little different in this Era. I also want to pull out the old "Lightsabers are unique to individual Jedi, their shaping guided by the Force." I don't think it's unreasonable to say 'nobody came up with the idea'. Also to be fair, to be fair. [@Ellri] has not said you absolutely [i]can not[/i] have it. Just that it's creation would need to be well explained.
