All these charges and more has Edric Beaumont been accused of in the seventeen years he’s inhabited the mainland. An outlander from the East, past Brevyon’s far gray shores, Edric’s reputation as an occultist and mystic has garnered him awe, fear, deference, and hatred from the common folk. Ill of fate and fortune, few have forgotten Ellara Beaumont’s passing several years before; fell victim of a disease incurable by salve or potion. Divine punishment, some claimed: retribution from the heavens for Edric’s ties to sorcery. Others were of the mind that Edric killed her, himself; carving out her heart and feasting upon it to appease some demon of incomprehensible malevolence. Or worse, even, performing sacreligious experiments on her corpse in the pursuit of forbidden knowledge. Still, few made these accusations known beyond hushed whispers and rumored half-truths as he walked by, rightly hesitant to arouse the wrath of a sorcerer. Yet, Edric either ignored or did not hear the murmuring of the townsfolk, associating with others as little as possible. Almost never remaining in a single place for long, Edric’s arrivals and departures were quiet, without announcement or celebration, yet many claimed that he carried the cruel hand of fate with him like a brand, dooming those around him to suffer misfortune. An adventurer by trade, Edric was accompanied always by a single great gray wolf, a creature as loyal to its master as any trained hound. The wolf seemed to shimmer with every step, looking corporeal one moment then transparent the next, as though its constitution was a billowing of smoke. His travels were in pursuit of the arcane, seeking out old caves, tombs, and ruins for enchanted relics to hoard somewhere unknown. His journeys took him all across the country, though he avoided Brevyon for obvious reasons, remembering all-too-well the treatment of mages even by those back home across the sea. Yet, even now his motives are unreadable. Whatever incentive drives the spellcaster forward is as aloof and incomprehensible as he is, leaving the gossips and rumormongers to answer for him.

Personality
A bohemian in both appearance and mannerism, Edric is offbeat and eccentric; a darkly mysterious sorcerer with a near-fanatical obsession with the occult. Disheveled and unkempt, Edric’s general flouting of social norms and conventions have attributed to many of the wild accusations charged against him, no doubt steeped in his association with the unnatural. Though generally courteous and polite, Edric possesses an uncanny ability to put others on-edge with his odd demeanor; eerie, humorless smile; and sharp, penetrating gaze. Clever and inquisitive, with a insatiable thirst for knowledge, Edric has devoted the last seventeen years of his life towards plundering tombs and ruins, seeking lore and enchanted artifacts. In contrast to many wizards who spend their days locked in towers committing hundreds of tomes to memory, Edric favors firsthand experience and practical application: focusing on versatility and a diversity of spells to wield at his disposal. Deeply introspective and contemplative, Edric styles himself as something of a mystic: prone toward sage-like quotations and general observations of the world around him that range from practical to nonsensical, with little correlation between the two. Unfortunately, this aspect of his personality has done little to assuage the commoners and peasantry, who find Edric’s ramblings unsettling and esoteric. But behind the surface of Edric’s character hides a darkness, one that all who wield magic must strive to control - a hunger and lust for power; a dash of haughtiness and arrogance; the burden of guilt weighing heavily upon his shoulders; and the loathsome, suffocating feeling of inadequacy.
