It was just like any other day for Ruby. Her parents were away, overseas like they always were, attending some business meeting or social networking event. It didn't really matter to her whichever it was. It didn't made any difference to her since she wasn't involved and they didn't even bother to tell her anyway. Growing up, the three of them rarely talked, and it was practically the housekeeper who raised her up. When she grew up, her parents had seen fit to get rid of the housekeeper as they moved into a penthouse apartment and Ruby felt more alone than ever. She didn't seem to have many friends, and so she decided to start up a Youtube channel in a bid to cope with being alone all the time. Fortunately, that managed to turn out rather well for her, and she found herself a substantial amount of subscribers that found her content interesting, and awaited her regular updates. Apart from her studies, maintaining her Youtube channel and interacting with her subscribers gave her a new purpose in life. A popular content on her channel was to Mukbang videos, where she stream herself eating her meals to whoever bothered to watch. She'd bought a variety of food this time around, from noodles, to burgers, fried chicken and even pizza. She was in the midst of preparing her stream, when she heard the familiar sound of the Super Mario theme song. Searching for her phone, Ruby glanced at the screen to see an incoming call from one of her few friends, Jackson. "Hey, what's up Jackson?" "You doing anything right now?" "I'm just about to begin streaming. It's dinner time." "Wanna hang out? I've got an extra movie ticket. David bailed on me." "I've already bought sixty dollars bought of food. Can't let all of this go to waste now, can I? Wanna come over and join me eating on stream?" "Alright, I'll come over. Screw David, and screw this movie tickets. I'll be there in a bit. I won't be able to stay that long though. Parent's gone nuts. They gave us all a curfew after Michael got arrested two days ago for vandalising the police station." "Wow, that sucks. What did he do?" "The idiot tried to spray paint "Down with the Police" on the walls of the police station at night near the entrance. Said he was dared to. He was never the brightest, but I didn't think he was actually that dumb." "Alright, See ya soon." As soon as she hanged up the call, she began resuming the set-up and preparations, while she waited for Jackson to arrive. Knowing him, he'd be cycling over with the same old yellow bike she'd seen him use since high school. It was well worn with use, and she'd even offered to buy him a new one, but he declined the offer, saying that that his old one had sentimental value and character and was worth more than any brand new sparkling bike. It wouldn't be long now. Fifteen minutes or so. While she waited, Ruby decided to turn on the TV to see what was on.
