That said, he is not all "serious business" all the time and sometimes likes to slow down and savor the moment, and despite his morals, he is not naive enough to see the world in absolute terms of black and white, knowing that sometimes people do bad things believing it's their only option. However, those who take pleasure in committing horrible acts he has no sympathy and little mercy for them. He has an above-average intelligence and likes to read frequently, both for enjoyment and to keep his mind sharp. Although he doesn't have too many friends, those he does have he is very loyal to and expects that same loyalty in return. Origin 🔹 Alan's story is not exactly what one would call the happiest, but nor is it downright tragic. The correct term to use might be...complicated. You see, as a child, his father left him and his mother, forcing her to raise their son on her own. Alan never truly understood why they separated and whenever he asked, his mother would simply smile and pat him on the head while saying something along the lines of "we're just working through a few problems, dear. Don't worry, everything will be ok." However, Alan wasn't dumb. He could tell at a glance that his mother was just trying to make him feel better. As such, he did all he could to make her happy. He worked hard in school and even took up washing dishes and sweeping the floor, among other things, to help when she came home from work, exhausted. However, even with a decent number of friends in school, and his mother's love, he sometimes felt a tinge of envy in his heart at seeing kids being raised by two parents instead of just one. One of his escapes from the harshness of reality was in the many comics he had gotten his hands on through money acquired in small jobs. The adventures of people like Spiderman, Batman, Superman, etc, gave him courage when he needed it...and that fascination only grew the day he realized, oh yeah, there may actually be people out there with REAL superpowers. Of course, he knew deep down being like his heroes was next to impossible as he didn't recall anyone in his family displaying incredible talents...but as they say, destiny works in mysterious ways... It all started with his Mom being stricken with an illness that just got worse as time went on, to the point she actually ended up in the hospital where it turned out she had a tumor in her brain...and the surgery to remove it would cost an absurd amount of money. Needless to say, Alan was devastated and tried everything he could to gather the money but his efforts seemed doomed to fail...at least until he was out one night, drowning his sorrows at a pub when he was approached by a man in uniform. The man talked of a job opportunity for people like Alan, to be part of an experiment to given humans superpowers and he would be paid handsomely for essentially being a glorified lab rat. Alan knew something like this was too good to be true...but remembering his dying mother gave him all the motivation he needed to accept. A couple days later, he was taken to a secret facility where he and a number of other people were each given an isolated form of the meta-gene. The results were...unpleasant, to say the least. Many of the patients went mad in a matter of days and Alan himself was in excruciating pain as his very genetic code was rewritten, and something in him...fractured. When he overheard the people involved wanting to turn their patients into weapons of war...Alan lost it. He tapped into his new power and broke free, tearing the facility to shreds with his new Transmutation power. It was only when the place was in ruins and he heard people screaming for help he came back to his senses and used that same power to help. The scientists involved would soon be arrested and the patients would get the care they needed...but Alan would never be the same. He returned to his Mom's side and waited for the inevitable...at least until he heard the voice in his head saying he could save her if he truly wanted to. Tapping into his gift once more, he slowly and carefully removed every trace of the tumor, saving her life. His Mom was beyond shocked and even a little outraged by Alan's story, but the fact he did what he did to save her life was enough to squash any negative feelings. The only question was...what now? The pair eventually found out about Azure City and decided Alan could do a lot of good there and they had even gotten a tip that a man matching his father's description had been sighted around those parts. It was a long shot, sure, but Alan would take it if it meant he could get the chance to sock his deadbeat father in the face. As such, the pair packed their things and moved to Azure City, and this is where our hero's story truly begins... Notable Relations 🔹 His Mom Locus: The persona that lives in Alan's head and only he can see except for special situations. Is technically his "partner" and although it does genuinely care about Alan and his needs, it's willing to take a more ruthless, pragmatic approach in its desire to protect him. Resources 🔹 Short Answer? Quite wealthy due to his power BUT kept a secret and under the guise of having enough to get by. Everyday Skills 🔹 Crafting: Considering what his power is, this is actually rather fitting as a skill. Although he's no expert, he has a fair amount of skill in things like woodworking and knitting, and has even made a small profit by selling a number of his handcrafted items. Cooking/Baking: Another skill he's picked up and one he quite enjoys. Is surprisingly useful too as it lets him keep a supply of treats on hand to fuel up in an emergency. Combat Fighting Style 🔹 Alan doesn't have any real fighting style, preferring to let his powers do the heavy lifting at a range and throwing some surprisingly nasty punches, kicks and headbutts when someone gets too close. Strengths 🔹 Alan's power is both potent and highly versatile which, when combined with his intelligence, allows him to be adaptable to most situations. Weaknesses 🔹 Alan is more of a long-range fighter than someone who likes getting up close and personal. As such, people who can get in close tend to have an easier time landing attacks on him. Alan is not a disciplined fighter and what experience he has tends to come either from being self-taught or from being out on the field. Equipment 🔹 Wallet: Just a normal wallet with everything you expect a wallet to have, though he does keep a photo of him, his Mom and his Dad from one of the last Christmases they had together. Cellphone: His Mom insists on him carrying this at all times so she can stay in touch. Power Strengths 🔹 Alan's gift is the potent power of Transmutation. With it, he can affect both organic AND inorganic matter by rearranging its molecular structure. As one can imagine, such a power has many uses including freely altering his form, turning weapons into toys, morphing lead into gold, turning the bullets and shrapnel in one's body into fresh organic tissue, and whatever else he can think of. When in use, his power takes the form of some manner of psionic energy that manifests around his hands and then either gets shot forth as a beam or released in a wave around him. Weaknesses/Limitations 🔹 Despite the power and versatility of his gift, excessive use without rest causes Alan's fatigue to settle in faster, to the point he can even collapse from exhaustion and other negative ailments can rear their heads. As such, he keeps candy bars and sweets on him to restore energy when he needs it. Also, Alan has more difficulty with affecting organic matter directly meaning he can't just turn a person's internal organs into barbed wire on a whim, nor does he want to. Also, though inorganic changes are permanent, organic changes are not. Has a limited range at which his powers is effective with his beams starting to fizzle out after being fired the length of the average football field and his field only extending up to thirty feet from him. Extra 🔹 His other persona "Locus" can appear to him in many different forms. Whether this an effect of Alan's mind, or a side effect of his powers he has yet to figure out. If it comes down to a choice between catching the villain or saving people's lives and he can only do one, he WILL choose the latter, regardless of the consequences. [/hider]
