The currency of the Stellar Empire is technically known as the Soldaei although it is colloquially referred to as a credits. Hard currency is in common use far from the urban. A credit chip is worth a certain number of Soldaei and is a thin circle of metal which holds a holographic diffraction grating with its value, a picture of the Empress and and its verification details. Counterfeiting is all but impossible. A credit is updated each time it passes through official hands and the hologram updated to the current monarch.
