Trouble is, I wouldn't use numerical values because there aren't any values to begin with. In this case, Phalanx could be adapted to something that makes more sense for the character. Maybe this: when in defensive formation with the Centurion, allies gain an overshield that prevents injury until it itself is depleted by incoming damage, the shield able to take a couple middling blows or a single solid one. Since it would be a flat amount and not scale with the target's vitality, it would be best on squishier allies.
