Michael was gifted with the ability to see magic and the way it flows through everything when he was a very young child, and he manifested more and more powers as he grew. It was on his third birthday that it was determined that he would be wed to another powerful coven so that the two bloodlines would mingle and thus result in a stronger future for the two. Being only three years of age at this time, it meant little to him and he took it as a good thing that he would be able to help out his mother and grandmother by being wed to another.  

It was after this date that his mother began training him in the art of mana manipulation so that he may have an avenue through which he could grow into his own immense magical potential. It wouldn’t be until later that he would realize that he was uniquely gifted with the art of not only being able to manipulate mana, which there are few still that can do that, but to be able to see the very essence of mana as it flowed through the world. However, it was due to this that a birth defect became prevalent in him. His right eye began to change colour as time passed. Now his right eye almost always glows golden as he sees the mana of the world through it. 

It was on his thirteenth birthday that his grandmother died passing the head of the black coven to his mother. She had little time to work with him after this point as the coven took up most of her time trying to keep them hidden from the world, to keep him safe. 
She taught him a final spell before the days of his youth had finally ended, she taught him to call the will-o-wisp to his aid, to guide him. With this she told him that he would never be alone. And that should he ever need it, he would have guidance.
