There is a tinge of a Cuban accent to his speech given how much time he spends with the Hispanic members of the Red Crowns, but it is not thick and only seeps through unconscious.
▼ | ATTIRE : |
Malik fashions himself a new age gangbanger: suits, rings, watches, and designer glasses instead of baggy pants, bandanas, and oversized shirts and jerseys. If he is not wearing a suit, he is probably wearing a collared shirt and some slacks or a collared shirt and some jeans if he is dressing down. If he fancies himself especially bummy one day then he may wear a turtleneck and some jeans. But his parents work hard, his mother at any one time holding no less than two jobs and his father spends much of his life in the business sector as middle management. Eventually, Malik’s parents find he comeuppance they desire for themselves and their trio of sons and move up the socioeconomic ladder as per the facets of the prototypical American Dream. Yet, with it all--or with as much as two slightly more than exceptional black folks can buy--Malik finds solace in his neighborhood and the kids in his neighborhood. He falls in with a group of kids who call themselves a ‘gang’, but they are just delinquents who commit petty crimes. Eventually, Malik and his friends’ gang is absorbed by one of the many branches of the Red Crowns. Malik’s new peers know his upbringing and know that he is not a born-and-bred latchkey child; for this, he is ridiculed and often left out of many of his new gang’s early major plays. That, and he is underage; but time is not so kind to the kids and young men who are above him and many end up dead or in jail. Malik’s parents intervene and try to re-direct their sons’ wonton behavior and as many expected, it was to no avail. His parents, aging and knowing of no other way to help their son, put aside a trust fund of his own. All of this is worsened when Malik’s Exposure Event happens during his eighteenth birthday. It was branded a home invasion. Uptown rivals made Malik’s parents’ murders look like a robbery. Florida PD came and got Malik from school. He wouldn’t see the bodies until the funeral, and Malik and his brothers were sent to live with his grandfather. Malik’s trauma manifested in the form of the Delta energy he had been unknowingly accumulating over the years while living with his parents. He woke up at his grandfather’s house seeing nothing but crimson red; more, the world around him was made of flat, geometric shapes. He cried, he screamed. Then he ran. He ran back to the same kind of people who killed his parents but the same people who made him feel like he belonged (even if marginal). This time, though, he was older and he was different. An older, retired Red Crown took Malik under his wing and taught him the finer ways of how to survive the streets and high society. Left an inheritance, Malik invests his money and while he is not wealthy, he uses what he has learned to funnel money into businesses and fronts for the Red Crowns in Charity Beach where he has recently moved.

⫸ P O W E R I N F O R M A T I O N ⫷
"I see it all."
▼ | POWER CLASSIFICATION : |
Type-Chromatic (Red, Blue)
▼ | POWER DESCRIPTION : |
Optic Energy Emission Malik was turned into a conduit for UV rays; he can absorb a steady amount of UV light and transmit it into hard-light through his eyes. It is usually channeled in red or blue, much like the crystal energy he absorbed leading up to his Exposure. When he activates his power, he sees everything through either a red or blue spectrum. These beams can be either concussive or they can cut through objects and flesh. Whether these beams cut through physical objects or simply concuss is dependent on Malik’s intent. He can bounce these beams off of most kinds of surface if angled correctly and cause ricochet. Alternating his beams with a single eye is also something he is learning to do (though has not mastered); they can get large (but no larger than the size of his eyeballs) or small as garrote wire depending on what Malik requires. They can cut through and bend nothing tougher than steel. 360 Vision Because Malik’s world now lacks three dimensional depth and functions entirely in 2D, Malik’s brain has adapted and pushed his occipital lobe beyond normal human capacity. The rays which reflect off of buildings Malik passively manipulates so he can see all around himself. Where there is no light source, he loses this ability. Superhumanly Acute Spatial Awareness Malik has an almost unnatural grasp on how much space is in a given room: how many tiles, how much distance exactly is between one tile on the ceiling and another, how far and how close someone is to himself. Though he lacks extra depth perception, he is also not hindered by it and is not so easily confused by sleight of hand.
▼ | LIMITS : |
There is a limit to how much energy he can store in himself before he must release it. Unbeknownst to Malik, his beams are actually weaker the closer they are to a target; they become stronger the further a target is away from him. When his beams are set to cut someone or something, the effect may be negated by sufficient metallic armor.
▼ | WEAKNESSES : |
Malik has little physical combat training and relies heavily on his gifts to keep him alive. Should his powers fail him, he is generally at a loss as to how he is going to defend himself. Even with his powers, Malik is best when fighting at a distance and if someone manages to remove said space from him, he is handily defeated by someone with more skill than himself. He is also just a human and is killed in any way sufficient to kill an otherwise regular man. When he is firing his beams, he is technically 'blind' so he keeps his emissions short and purposeful. His 360 vision relies on a constant source of light and in shadows it is obsolete.
