Personally, I would prefer if we strayed from changing/adding to previously established canon. Small changes are likely in such an extensive franchise like Muv-Luv, but fixing the canon to fit in OCs doesn't really sit well with me. There's a lot of information to work with without drastically affecting the canon, especially with characters such as the Master or groups like the Yokohama training flight (which has also been asked about).
