There is a five-year-old on top of him, and it is raining. Tomoya doesn’t think he has ever woken up so irritated and it’s very foreboding that his mood is sour on such a momentous day like this. Because Tomoya finally made it out of the Academy – he was average in the test, but he still graduated and it’s raining and there’s a five-year-old in his lap. “Tetsu-chan, isn’t onee-chan supposed to be watching you?” Despite his trying patience, Tomoya worked hard to keep his tone light lest he invoke crocodile tears from his little brother. Then it would be raining with a crying five-year-old in his lap and Tomoya doesn’t think he’s emotionally mature enough to handle that. Instead of answering him with words, Tetsuya just shrugged which was basically an admittance to errant behavior on his end – he probably ran away from Kaede to visit Tomoya. If that’s true, then any minute now – Bam! “There you are, you little rascal!” It was too early for this shit. The door that Kaede had so carelessly slammed open hit the wall with a loud smack! and the graduating Uchiha could see cracks from where the door knob indented the wall. Tomoya wasn’t religious, but he was really thinking about taking it up since everyone talks about how you become more virtuous that way. Tomoya could really use some virtue right now if he was going to not kill his sister. In one fell swoop, Kaede wrangled Tetsuya off of Tomoya’s bed before the five-year-old could run somewhere else and, subsequently, Tetsuya began wailing with his arms outstretched towards Tomoya. It always broke his heart when Tetsuya gave him those big puppy-dog eyes, seeking for Tomoya’s undivided attention. Tetsuya’s watering eyes were begging for his help against their sister and Tomoya’s heart ached in sympathy. Tomoya turned in his bed and shut his eyes. It was raining and a five-year-old was crying, but at least that five-year-old isn’t crying on his lap. Tetsuya’s cries got farther and farther, but he didn’t hear anyone shut his door and that just really pisses him off. If Kaede was going to barge into his room, she could at least close the door behind her. There’s no use getting to sleep now. Raining or not, Tomoya was going to do his morning training routine. Tetsuya and Kotoe had a bad habit of waking up early, so the older Uchiha siblings took turns babysitting in the morning as their parents slept off their sleepless nights from the nightmare that is the baby. Tomoya’s turn was tomorrow, but maybe he could wiggle out of it somehow – maybe his new shinobi responsibilities would save him. Tomoya really did not want to encounter his siblings this morning (or any morning really, but especially on a day as sucky as this one). So Tomoya packed his training bag with spare clothes and climbed out of his window on the second floor. Mud splashed beneath him and soaked the cuffs of his pants in an ugly brown color. Tomoya hates brown and he hates ruined clothes even more. After his disastrous morning, early training went okay enough. The rain sucked, he hated rain with a passion because it hindered his training, but he didn’t fall and sprain anything (which was a major plus). Tomoya did cut his cheek when he was practicing his shuriken throwing; luckily, he always brings bandaids with him, and he slapped that sucker onto his cheek – good as new. Afterwards, the Uchiha changed into his spare clothes – golden, pristine, and about to be sopping wet (Tomoya isn’t pleased) – for the graduation ceremony. Tomoya’s feelings were mixed when he left the training grounds to head to the Academy. He was excited to be a real shinobi, pissed off his day started shitty, and a bit apprehensive of leaving the comfort of boyhood behind him. “New beginnings,” he told himself quietly, “time to become a badass.”
